My name is Ryan and I am going to race the Australia Safari Rally this September! I have had to wait to post my big news because there has been a lot to sort out for this experience of a lifetime. I am very excited and grateful to have this opportunity and realize not everyone can so I will do my BEST. This has been over a year in the works with the last 6 months a wirlwind of preperation. With a lot of help my bike was taken down to the frame, inspected, rebuilt bottom and top end, then inspected again. It makes you really appreicate racing when all the hard work is done. In addition I have been training phyiscally and mentally to imrpove my cardio and navigation skills. I recently went to Paraump, Nevada in July (hot is an understatement 113 degrees) to train witha really good guy and teacher Jimmy Lewis. During all this preperation the support from my wife, family, and freinds has been amazing and without that support I could not have done it. However, I still need more HELP, so I am selling Skidrow Racing T Shirts. They are $22 each and i will bring some with me so let me know. I am using paypal rewally92647@yahoo.com and you can look at the shirts under my other post australia safari rally in racing thread dakar or bust. I want to also thank Camoron and the Welsh family, Race Tech Suspension, Maineroot Handcrafted Beverages, Leatt, Firehouse 9, Gaerne, Big City AC&Heating, Pascos Pizza Hesperia, Dubya Wheels. I will be racing my 2011 KTM 530 EXC with my rally moto kit ( thanks chris for a great product). I have been using the F2r Roadbook, RNS multi switch and odometer (thanks Tony for the great customer support), flexx bars, seat concepts suede seat (awsome), zip ty racing footpeg extensions, and feel very comfortable with my set up. I wanted my bike to not only be reliable but comfortable. I have a very extensive spare parts cache, extra complete wheels with bib mousses that has all been loaded and shipped with the bike. ANY HELP would be welcomed. My family and I (inlaws, wife and baby) are making a long trek and will most certainly need some help. i may need a shop to finalize the bike after its been shipped, unless i can do it from the dock. i also need a good ktm shop/mechanic in case, so if anyone has a recommendation let me know. SPARE PARTS FOR SALE. i have a pretty good list like two used baja designs squadron lights, custom bash plate with 3.5 liters of water, scotts streaming stabilizer, orange talon carbon fiber wheels with black excel a60 rims, radiators, shifters, levers, 100w high output stators with dc converters, clutch discs, side cases both sides, rally moto kit (fairing with tower), anything else let me know i might have it. prices are to be determined but i will be easy to find at the rally (only american) I have a facebook page Skidrow Racing that i will be posting on while racing (hopefully i can find wifi) and a spot tracker to keep tabs on me. I want to thank the ADV Rider crowd for being a good group of like mined fanatics for motorcycles. Its good to know we are not alone. Everyone here has always been helpful. Also i had a few choices of rallys but we had such a great time in Australia a few years ago that we wanted to go back. Australians are a really fun crowd. Take care, ride safe, keep the rubber down, sincerelely, Ryan Wallace
I think you mean from us and why jump at that? I think and could be wrong but like to believe in human nature being a good thing that he is asking for advice on locations, tips on a good shop like he asked and mentioned he is selling some shirts but am sure he isn't going to do the rally on his shirt sales. Looking for that like mined rider to rider spirit that we all need from time to time is my take Flame away TB
$22 bucks is a cheap T shirt to a cause Snowtown charged me $25 and doesn't even show the bank, wtf :huh
Wow what a great adventure. Racing in a foreign country. Kudos for making that happen! Where are you starting from. If you need help shipping the bike let me know. Im an importer of bikes and cars into Brisbane from the US in my spare time and can hook you up with the guys I use if thats needed. If you are bringing parts in to sell be aware there is a process that must be followed for importing them. Here's another great Aussie dirt bike site that would be worth joining up and posting on. http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/index.php
Yeah why not - we just liked the FB page too and nudged it up to 102 Good luck Ryan! We look forward to seeing you in September.
Thanks fellow adv riders for the support and advice. It is so greatly appreciated. I thought i should give you guys some more insight. I feel truly privileged to be able to do this race. I am fortunate to be healthy and have a healthy family willing to be as crazy as i am. Life can be taken at any moment and i for one want to enjoy every experience possible. I thought of a thousand reasons on why I should not attempt this rally, same ones you would probably come up with too. But, in the end it came down to health and timing, both being good. When would i have another chance and i needed to put my intimidation/fear aside to have this international rally experience. If there is any group of guys that would understand me i knew you guys would. Ride safe and have fun, sincerely, Ryan
