Finally got around to putting together a short video of my ride on the White Rim Trail in Moab Utah. It was a great ride, albeit very long ride, just over 300kms and I did it in just over 6 and half hours of steady riding. Only stopped for photos. A variety of terrain from desert to hills to canyons. For some reason the video clips didn't splice the way I wanted them but it will have to do for now. Hope you enjoy it...makes me want to get out and do some riding Damn snow :huh <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/YoB0GGVRuFY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Your welcome! I wouldn't say it's a must ride but it's a real nice ride and if you took a bit more time than I did and stopped and smelled the roses, you could still do it in one very long day. I believe if you plan to overnight, you would have to get a camping permit and you can only camp in a few designated areas. I only saw a few people on the whole route, a group of mountain bikers doing the trip in 3 days with a support vehicle...they were flying along! You never know...the opportunity might meet you one day!
Thanks 2whlrider! Have you been working on your off-road technical skills for some riding around here About time we got your feet wet...literally
If visualizing off-road riding skills counts then....yes, yes I have. This white s**t has to melt first in order for anything to get wet.
Worked out in the garage today for a few hours getting the Ktm's ready for this season. The 300 is now ready to go and the 530 is in progress. Took quite awhile to reroute and remount all the wires, harness and mounts behind the front light plate but I finally got it done. The new X2 light requires much more space, so you have to move everything. Something they don't tell you when you buy it but you get a piece of paper when you open the box :huh This is the Halogen model not the HID one. Ktm 300xc-w ready to do battle Ktm 530exc with new front headlight assembly...so far so good
That video needs some good cowboy tunes (Marshall Tucker, Eagles, New Riders, Outlaws) type music playing in the background. Looks like a great ride. Not sure I would be trying it as an "all in" 6.5 hr run. You must have been beat by the end. Really surprised at how little traffic you met. Thought there would be more in the form of jeeps, quads etc.
Pretty gruelling to do it in 6.5hrs but I didn't know what to expect and wasn't sure how long it would actually take, so I kept up a steady pace. If I did it again, I would take a full day and stop at a few spots to explore. There was one spot where there was about 15 mtn bikes sitting perfectly upside down ( from what I've been told, it's so the front disk brake lines don't loose their pressure?). I slowed down and looked around and saw a crack in the rock that looked like it opened up into a small canyon and assumed that they must've been down there exploring. No quads, jeeps or motorbikes but I saw one other truck moving and one camping at a designated spot. I imagine it would be a little more busy on a weekend but still it's such a big area that people are far and few between!
Anyone know anything about - or has ridden up to the top of this peak just northeast of White River off Hwy 631 that heads up to Hornepayne? I bet the views would be pretty impressive from up there. I'm looking for some possible places to explore in the future. Mike
Mike, from what I recall a great deal of the area around White River was burnt off in a big forest fire a few years back.
Nice Bikes ! i think thats the direction i am going to take next. The crf 230 s has been good but i think KTM has a far superior bike in many ways.
Figures. The last time I rode along that stretch of Hwy 631 coming into White River it was raining and foggy - so I didn't see much. Maybe there wasn't much to see except burnt land! Mike
Well, the Ktm 530 is now ready for this season I had forgotten just how tough the Dunlop D606 is to take off and put a new one on :eek1 but I finally got it and cross my fingers no pin holes! Now if the damn snow would just melt 2010 Ktm 530exc ready for the 2013 riding season
That's one area that I haven't explored yet Mike. I'm not sure what kind of damage the fires did thru there either. Right now it's pretty low on my list of places to visit. If your looking for some places to visit, try the backroads from Geraldton turn off down south around Long Lake and back up to Longlac. Or you can go thru from Terrace Bay to Longlac. Two old Fire Towers supposed to be up there. I've only done the route once from Geraldton to Longlac and wasn't looking for the towers at the time. I think the Geraldton/Longlac loop was 300kms...I think...did it awhile back. The area is rich in logging history! Edit: my bad, the Geraldton/Longlac run was around 135kms and it took 3 hours going at a pretty good clip. Had to look it up...had forgotten how long it was.
There's a nice lookout just past Nipigon that Ron ZZr told me about called Mount Morriseau? Really nice views, easy ride up.
That's the one where you turn left at the Cop Shop and go back in about 13kms or so. Nice climb up with a bike and nice views!
