Thinking about riding up the coast to Oregon. Any advice on a coastal town in Oregon that would be a great base for day rides out and back? At least 2-3 good loops out of base. Most likely staying in a hotel near decent restaurants. Thanks for any help!
Did the California coast up to Astoria last year on my way to the rally. One place I would recommend along the Oregon coast is the KOA near Crescent City. I know you're looking for hotels, but consider the camping cabins (or Kamping Kabins as they call them) as an option. It's one of the nicest campgrounds for motorcycle camping I've stayed at. The reason I stayed there is because I wanted a day trip to visit the Oregon Caves. The roads to the caves are fantastic twisties through some of the nicest forests ever. Highly recommend. http://www.nps.gov/orca/index.htm
Florence, Oregon. Many motels/hotels to choose from. I prefer Old Town Florence, along the river. Hotels nearby many places to eat plus coffee shops and other drinking establishments. The Siuslaw River Port Authority has a small campground nearby also. To the south is Reedsport, highway 38 and the Umpqua River and also the Smith River and the locally famous Smith River Road (would make a great loop) both destinations could involve a loops. Going to the east is the Siuslaw River and Hwy 126, the towns of Mapleton, Triangle Lake and Eugene. A Bit to the north is Corvallis and Hwy 34 back to the coast and the town of Waldport. Many loops could be created out of any number of destinations. Might I also suggest the Fortuna Calif. area. Motels and a Micro Brewery down in the Riverwalk area of Fortuna. For loops you have the Lost Coast, Highway 36, and the Redwoods. .
Thanks guys, the KOA in Crescent City will be on my route, then on to Oregon. Appreciate any input on routes out of Florence or Gold Beach. Bob
Just saw the routes out of Florence from Meatwitheyes, those sound like great routes. I have done the Lost Coast and Hwy. 36 which is an incredible ride. Probably stay in Florence (old town) that sounds right up my alley. Thanks again,
