Be among the first 300 in NC to get an official BRP motorcycle tag.

The Blue Ridge Foundation needs our help. We need a total of 300 paid applications before the NC DMV will issue this tag. We are up to 100 and need 200 more.

Cost = $30 of which $20 go to the private non-profit Blue Ridge Foundation and towards projects to preserve facilities along the parkway and towards preserving parkway heritage. The remaining $10 goes toward the NC Beautification Fund.

    Official Press Release:

Motorcycle Specialty License Plate to Benefit Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation North Carolina vehicle specialty license plate is the most popular in the state’s history. Over 20,000 plates are now on the roads in support of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the programs that directly benefit the Parkway.

The North Carolina General Assembly has passed legislation introduced by Senator Joe Sam Queen and Representative Phil Haire, authorizing the BRP Motorcycle specialty license tag during its 2007 session; the tag is authorized for production after January 1, 2008. The Foundation has the remaining calendar months of 2007 to enroll as many registrants as possible; a minimum of 300 is required.

Revenues from these plates—$20 per plate—will directly benefit the Parkway through the programs of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. “Motorcycle enthusiasts are regularly seen on the Blue Ridge Parkway—it’s a great ride. We hope a large number will express their appreciation for the Parkway by purchasing a motorcycle license plate” says Hobie Cawood, Chair of the Foundation Board. “It is a way to give back for an unforgettable experience; it is a way to share the journey”.

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation recently awarded a $100,000 grant for Parkway rangers to conduct educational outreach programs for students in communities along its 469-mile scenic corridor. The “Parks as Classrooms” program serves local schools in the counties that border the parkway in both North Carolina and Virginia.

In addition to funding educational outreach, the Foundation has provided nearly $1.2 million in funds for preserving scenic quality, historic preservation, improvement of exhibits and visitor facilities, for scientific research, and other unmet needs of the Parkway. The Foundation is now actively funding projects at several locations along the Parkway including at the Moses Cone Estate and the Destination Center near Asheville, as well as partnering with Parkway staff and Appalachian State University on the newly acquired Camp Catawba historic site.

The Blue Ridge Parkway plates can be personalized. The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is yet to make a determination on whether the plates will have 3 or 4 spaces for personalization but the Foundation is taking requests for both on their applications. “We expect a great demand for the personal plate choices so we will be fair by giving priority to the earliest requests” said Houck Medford, Executive Director.

Applications are now being accepted at the Foundation office. You may download an application from the website www.brpfoundation.org or call the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation at 336-721-0260.

Looks good Woody. It appears I'll have to wait to get my 990 standard plate (this Feb '08) first then order this BRP plate. Will do!
    Thanks for posting this.
