I had to go to my folk's farm and mow grass, so I decided to take an extra day off and go explore the Old and New Rt 55 around the Petersburg, Moorefield, and Wardensville area in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. I took the old 2-lane road east into Virginia, and came back on the new 4-lane, including the new section that just opened up to around Greenland Gap. The fall colors are still nice but fading quickly. I posted the ride report on my website - www.RidingWV.com

    Hope you enjoy it.

Dang, I forgot to write that he currently owns and rides a 2006 Harley Fat Boy. I'll edit the page now.

I'm sure your dad had many interesting stories about the Navy. My dad was also Navy and is slowing down quite a bit after a year of cancer treatment.

    Great pics and report. Thanks.
I have a couple of the same shots along Horse Ridge from my trip at the end of August. RR in my sig.
New River Gorge Area was about the furthest East I'd been in WV (other than across 250 and 33 - trips to BRP). Last couple years I've explored Canaan Valley and Smoke Hole. Hellbenders Burritoes in Davis yum ! Camped at Seneca Rocks several times this summer. I have family in Mercer County WV and Tazewell County VA so I'm familiar with that area, but this area is a new destination for me. Leisurely riding down side roads and state/US routes it's only 5 hours saddle time from home.

makes me realize how much I have missed living in WV. The Fall colors of that area are splendid! I lived in Morgantown, WV for two years (96-98) and although I didn't have my motorcycles with me, I traveled as many back roads in WV, MD and PA as I could on weekends with my CJ-7 Jeep.

Thanks for posting. I will check out your personal website later.
