Yep! I'm a Mac dude and have Google Earth right handy on my desktop.

BTW, I've noticed that they're making improvements as far as the ares that are displayed in high resolution. My town was just outside the high-res area around Atlanta, but recently the west side of town is high-res.

    Oorah!

I too am a Google Earth addict on the Mac. I use it to plan trips, share them with friends, and then mark up the routes I took for historical sake (Trip around Allatoona this Weekend: http://toadstool.se/files/kml/trips/Trip%20to%20Etowah,%202006-07-23.jpg)

The Google Earth Version 4 beta's have been a pretty good improvement if you haven't tried it out. There is also a Linux download if you swing that way.

Every few months Google gets new maps from their satellite provider. In June there was a huge map update that really has rocked my socks. I still have a hard time telling between gravel roads and light-grey roads, which makes planning trips with my frightened cruiser buddies a pain. :cry

Make sure you are on OS X not an earlier 9.2+. It won't run on 9.2

Incidentally, did you know you can export your Garmin tracks in Mapsource to Google Earth?

Except you can't do that on a Mac because you can't run Mapsource. Never mind....:lol3

Yeah, it's sad that MapSource still requires Virtual PC or other virtualization software to run on a Mac. That's actually a sore spot for me :cry. There is hope though!

Google Earth 4.0 can directly import waypoints, tracks, etc. from your GPS. :dealOtherwise, there are plenty of third party solutions such as LoadMyTracks that will happily download your tracks and export them as a KML for Google Earth. Likewise for Linux.

If you're interested in automating the downloading of tracks and exporting KML's, take a look at GPSBabel.

I just figured this out yesterday while reviewing some of my tracks. Anyone know of way to color code the track based on the speed?

Look for painted stripes. Not 100%, but better than nothing.

Absolutely - I have an 18 day KMZ file of daily tracks on my June trip inna Alps. Super being able to re-ride it.
Lessee - there's where I fell off and broke two ribs, there's the hospital in Berchtesgaden, There's the Gasthof that I laid up in for two days feeling sorry for myself...
An then, another 15 days and 4,500km of riding. You can only feel sorry for yourself for so long ;-)

Hmm.. this would actually be fairly easy for me to program, if the .kmz/.kml that is generated has time-data in it. If someone e-mails me a .kml (thomas-at-stromberg.org) that was generated by a GPS, I could see about writing a web-app to color-code it tonight.

My GPS doesn't come in for another week, but I am interested in having this feature as well. :freaky
