I was looking though some old pics of rides to CK and I came upon these from a ride I did up there with Terry.

Anybody have an update on the CK area yet? That's a bunch of rain in a short amount of time - going to be some serious erosion around the area...

Conditions

If the weather stays pretty good the rest of the week we should be fine, however I may do a run up the back way Friday evening to see what we are in for...

Weather forecast is more thunderstorms for today and tomorrow.

Maybe we should bring jetskis instead?

Just spoke with Mike at the Mill, he said they got well over five inches of rain. The town did well and Yavapai County already has graders fixing the front side...

The back side is going to be interesting...

I NEED A HEAD COUNT FOR DINNER AT THE MILL...I need to update him Friday evening...

I was curious when you said up to CK the back way. Where is the starting point? For both the front way and the back way. Thanks

Thanks cyberdos

I've done the front way a handful of times never done the back way. Is the back way two track jeep trail or more primitive/technical?

BTW I'm a little technically challenged how did you rename the google maps and link them?

Every time I've gone it's been different. A good part of the back way has been graded and the last time I was there it was just a moderate ride. Of course riding it at night should bump up moderate a notch or 10.

I saw from the other thread that you like technical single track at Boulders. If that's the case you should be fine.

here's one of the old Ride reports:

Just an FYI, the back way may have flowing water with depths of "interesting" levels in several locations. It may be sometime before all that water makes it down the hill. Or maybe not ?

If you haven't seen the New River today, take a look. Very impressive. Big dark clouds up there around Crown King this afternoon.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but it may be prudent to send a pre-ride daylight scout team. I am working Saturday night so I'm out on that event, BUT....I could be talked into a scout trip Friday if any others would like to join in.

Just wanted to point out that the Hassayampa River ran big on Tuesday and is still running about 1/2 across today, not possible to cross without pontoons. Most of that runoff comes from West Crown King area and Wagner. Smelled smokey when it first started running through town!
I would say the Wagner route will be very difficult in the daylight and really tough in the dark. Lots of that sticky clay mud on that route. The Hassayampa crossing should be passable unless it is still rolling swiftly like today. Lots of moving sand in the crossing area. However you can easily bypass that by going the Moonlight Mesa route to 93 and into Wickenburg.
Just my 2-cents... Have fun boys & girls...
