after reading that release I wonder if they will ever build a boxer with a drive belt.

It looks like an R1100S to me. I want to see the thing in person.... really bad.

A reasonably priced water-cooled twin making 60 - 80 hp would negatively impact 1200GS sales, I would think.

I'd like to see this new 330-lb. single though. What's that, 100 pounds lighter than the F650?

true - it sounds like the F650 will probably remain as is. It seems like a nice platform - I wanded to like it, but for me I found the power just too muted. It would be awesome taking a Buell motor and putting it into the Dakar setup :-)

I know its heresy, but it would be a fun bike! Maybe I should just go get that KTM after all...

Sounds neat but is it just me or did the Dakar rule change eliminate the possibility of a major manufacturer developing a serious off road capable twin? If the rule change was a couple years earlier we may not have our wonderful KTM 950's!!!! the bmw quote talks about this that and the other but not a 950 spanker.
Racing evolves most of the cool bikes out there, for any purpose other than slab monsters. The older dakar was THE single major influence on our Rally Twins.

Fun to watch it unfold though!

The BMWGS-800 Parallel Twin Enduro will be out at the same time the new ER-6 650 Parallel twin based Kawasaki KLX-650 ER-6 comes out.

Hold your breath and keep wishing!

I just found an interesting pic of an F800ST:

I like it - I think an Adventure variant with long travel suspension, larger spoked wheels, chain drive, high fender, and abreviated fairing would look terrific. I'm not so sure about those panniers tho...? Look - it has a center stand! And that spin on oil filter is just asking for a skidplate. Damn I love those pipes!

That looks awesome... Can't wait to see what they come up with for a F800GS... Could be a nice replacement for the V-Strom someday down the road.
