dr650 tail light options?

I'm looking to get rid of my "mudflap" and mount the plate either on the rear fender or just under the fender. I've seen a couple of options including an acerbis 1 piece light/plate holder. Does anyone have pics of these (or anything other than that mudflap?)

This how a guy from the DR650 yahoo group did it. Lots of information there. If you want to get rid of the huge stock tail light the one off the DRZ 250 fits perfect.

Find yourself a Euro-spec tail light. I'm (sort of) confident it's a straight bolt on:

Not sure how you would get on in the US with a setup like this but I never had too many hassles in Oz.

All I did was cut out a small section of the standard tail/brake light and fill it with clear perspex to act as a number plate light.

Burren, I always liked your DR. It was from talking to you that helped me make the decision to get mine, back in 03........Also, I see people with sport bikes put the license plate inside the rear wheel fender, sideways! I asked a guy that did this if he got hassled and he said no. It was his friend's bike but he rode it frequently.

Thanks pokeyman, It's still a work in progress. I have Renthal handlebars coming this week and would like to do an exhaust and suspension some time in the future. Right now, it's working great as my commuter scooter in these $3.00 (almost) gal/gas days. It took $12 to fill up last time and that will last a whole month for me (11 mile daily round trip).

G'Day Bill,

Good to see the DR is working out for you .

It's funny but the more bikes I ride, the more I find myself coming back to the 650 for all round versatility. It did everything from trail riding to touring and I have come to realise that for a compromise bike it did pretty well.

Thanks for the pics so far. I like the "euro" tail light but I really want to get rid of the mudflap more than anything. I'm thinking about bending and drilling a metal plate just big enough to fit the license plate and inspection sticker (Tx). I guess I would need to re-use the LP light from the stock mount

I was looking at de-flapping mine a while back as well and a buddy talked me out of it. Although, I may have mumbled something about bending the plate and bolting it right to the fender. I like a couple of options on here including that DRZ taillight. Looks much cleaner than the stock 650 bits.

Thanks everyone for the inspirations.

Burren Rider, do you have any more pics of your beast? I think that is the sweetest DR that I have ever seen.

I made a plate holder out of scrap metal and picked up a little 12v light at the PepBoys($3.95) to light up the plate..Really simple to make. I ordered a Tail light(it's the small one/euro) for a DR-Z 250 from Suzuki I think it was about $32.00 and bolted right up,the wiring is a direct plug in...

Sorry I dont have any pics to post
