Question about barbacks R100GS

What are the market choices for barbacks for the R100GS? Real world experience re. cable lengthening, etc?

Thanks (I inadvertantly posted this in the "G-Spot")

Plenty of places sell 'em. there's enough length on the cables of a GS that there's no problems.

Just a caution...if you have a PD tank you will need to cut/grind the threaded lug off of the rear otherwise you'll have a pair of nice gouges in the tank to admire!

The brake hydraulic line may need to be re-routed a bit depending on if it's original or aftermarket. You may also need to lift the tank and loosen up the throttle/clutch/choke cables a bit. Once done they work very well.

if you're interested in the ones shown in that link, i just bought that exact pair from a guy in the flea market forum.

i'm gonna try to put them on this week sometime soon. busy with school, work, and 4 week old. so we'll see how it goes. i'll post a report and some pics as soon as i can and let you know how it goes.

i say this cause after i bought them in flea market, another guy posted that he has another pair just like them for sale. so maybe you could get them from him.

Posted on GS Spot last night

I have a set of black 1 1/2 inch risers from Touratech and they helped. I stand 6 feet tall and the riding position on my '92 R100GS had me arched forward uncomfortably. It always hurt between my shoulder blades after a ride, and standing on the pegs offroad made me look like a giant question mark. View them on this page: http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/B...bCat=BMW_R100GS.

They made a big difference, but didn't totally resolve my issues, so I am having a friend with a machine shop produce a different setup for me with more rise and backwards offset. I'd be willing to part with them for 25 bucks, and I'll cover shipping as well.

You might want to also look at http://www.zianet.com/GenMar/ and also talk to Andrew at Adventure Workshop - he has a prototype in testing that looked interesting, and he led me to believe that they would work on an airhead as well. I think there is a link in the Vendor section with a drawing of the prototype.

Hope that helps.

Here are pics of the A&S barbacks on a R100 GSPD, with the lugs ground off like bcostell sez. No problem with tank clearance or cables.

Sstodvictory, thanks for posting the pics, but I'm not sure what lugs you're referring to. I'm gonna need these on my GSPD when I (eventually) get it on the road due to my shorty arms.
