Bikes covered include the BMW 1200GS, 1150GS, 1100GS,F800GS, F650GS Twin Cylinder, All Years of KLR 650, V-Strom 650, V-Strom 1000.

BMW 1150GS with Caribou 35L Side Case System....

Same bike with 36L Side Case System...

And same bike with 40L Side Case System...

Integrated a weatherproof NEMA 4 rated key lock into the Pelican case lid, so you don't need padlocks. The weatherproof compression latch (big knob in photo below) with key lock secures the case to the bike is keyed to match the case lid lock.....

The external Quick Release compression lock system allows the cases to be taken off the bike in seconds, no need to open the case to access pucks or latches.....

Dual lid lanyards take the stress off the case lids and keep the lid from opening past 80 degrees creating a convenient shelf. Elastic straps with a clip in the center hold your gear into the large cavity of the case. These features keeps your gear from falling out onto the ground...

Inner bags designed specifically for the Caribou cases are available to keep your gear organized, and they offer a clean and lightweight way to bring your gear up to your hotel room...

The case material from Pelican, Hardigg and SKB is extremely tough, durable, shock absorbing, and water tight. It won't shatter or crack like hard plastic, won't dent and bend like aluminum, it is by far the toughest motorcycle luggage in the world, and the cases come with the manufacturer's Lifetime Guarantee...

Cases are tested waterproofness by submerging a case in Left Hand Creek near Boulder CO for 30 minutes, with the lid lock facing into the current. Not a drop got into the case...but my left hand was a block of ice...

Strong 3/4" 14 ga TIG welded steel tubing with powder coat finish is used for the rack/rail system. Designed it for a clean uncluttered look. Heat resistant Teflon-like bushings at all contact points prevent metal-on-metal wear and fatigue....

A rear cross bar tucked under the fender (on some bikes it wraps around the rear fender) creates a strong box structure. The lower rear corners are tucked-in toward the wheel to minimize snags on rocks, stumps and trees....

The bolt-on points of caribou brackets are engineered for strength. Gusseted steel bolt-on lugs are butt-welded to the end of the tubes, rather than the much weaker method of crimping and drilling the end of a round tube (they always break at that crimp). We also use 14 ga 3/4" square steel tube rather than the thinner 16 ga 5/8" round tube typically used for motorcycle luggage racks.

There is plenty of room for the passenger's boot on the rear foot peg....

Caribou cases have a deep square cavity that is easy to pack, and are availble in 35L, 36L and 40L sizes. As a comparison BMW system cases have only 33 liter left side, 25 liter right side, spit right down the middle clamshell style, and have those annoying contours inside making packing a PITA....

Overall width is nice and narrow, 36" across the outside of the cases at the widest point on the 1150GS (all systems are between 35" and 39" across). Note that all of our cases are the same depth, so as you move from 35L to 40L the overall width on the bike does not increase. The cases are up high enough for canyon carving, but you can easily swing your leg over the top.....

All parts that attach the case to the rack are made of steel, so they are very strong but field repairable in the event of a very bad crash (no exotic alloys or aluminum). The compression latch cam lobe is designed to break-off in the event of a hard crash so the case can eject in order to protect the bike's subframe. The idea is to allow a $25 part to break rather than a $1500 part. Pleas note every crash is different and there is no gaurantee this will protect your bike from damage in a crash. A "limp home" feature allows you to temporarily strap the case to the rail in the event of a hard crash and broken compression latch. Caribou Lugggage Systems have been thouroughly tested in harsh conditions including the Rocky Mountains and the backroads of Baja Mexico...

There is enough room on the non-exhaust side between the rear wheel and inside of the case for a small tool kit case piggy-back to the main case on many bikes. This is an option called the "Toolkit Case" about 2 liters.

Now some details on our Rear Top Case Systems. Sizes include the same case noted above for side cases (35L, 36L and 40L) and also a 34L case that fits a full face helmet. The lid lock is incorporated into the case as well. An Aircraft Quality Aluminum Cargo Plate (12" x 15") attaches to the bike, and a latch system on the back of the case allows lockable quick attach/removale of the case from the cargo plate (the 34L case utilizes an inside-the-case 1/4-turn fastener system). Bracing is employed as needed under the cargo plate to provide maximum strength on each bike.

35 Liter Top Case....

34 Liter Top Case that fis a full face helmet....

Introducing the Caribou ALS (Adaptive Luggage System) for Hepco Becker, Givi Monokey, SW Motech EVO side luggage racks.
Caribou ALS offers a strong, durable, secure, quick attach & release mount system for Caribou cases on Hepco Becker, Givi Monokey, and SW Motech EVO side luggage racks. This product greatly expands the number of bikes to which you can mount our Caribou cases since we do not make racks for every bike out there. BMW F650GS/Dakar Singles, Versys, Tiger, KTM 950/990/640/690, Yamaha Tenere are a few examples. Caribou ALS also offers a cost effective quick attach/release mount hardware for the DIY’er - no more having to drill and hard bolt the cases to the racks. Caribou case types/sizes include 35L, 36L and 40L Side Loading, and 36L Top Loading. With the DIY kit you can attach just about any case.

The unique Caribou ALS mount utilizes a dual-action latch that holds the case tightly against the rack to eliminate all case movement. The dual-action latch is adjustable to account for wear and to keep the system tight and secure over years and miles of use, and it has a keyed lock for security. The latch stud acts as a mechanical fuse allowing the case to eject from the bike in a hard crash and breaking a field replaceable $25 part rather than your bike's subframe. This is critical because Caribou cases are not going to crush like aluminum. The cases are on and off the bike in seconds, and all mounting components are made of high strength steel (inner backing plate is T-6 aluminum). A complete Caribou ALS system includes two Caribou side cases (35L, 36L or 40L sizes pre-drilled with integrated lid locks, lid lanyards and internal retention straps) and the ALS lockable mount system. The DIY kit does not include the cases, but does include a convenient case drill template to take the worry out of drilling your own cases. Caribou Luggage Systems is also a dealer for Hepco Becker side luggage racks so you can get one stop shopping and support on a complete Hepco Becker-Caribou ALS solution.

Here’s how the Caribou ALS product works (Givi example on F650GS)

1) Attach the high strength 3/16” thick special high strength steel Caribou ALS latch plate to the Givi rack…

2) Attach the Caribou ALS latch bracket, lower cleats, and backing plate to the pre-drilled Caribou case. Note how the backing plate is also a drill template for the DIY’er…

3) Attach and lock Caribou cases to bike, you are done!…

Here's the ALS system with 36L Top Loading Cases (easily removeable handles and wheels)....

Without Handles and wheels (lighter weight, narrower profile on the bike)...

Caribou ALS will be offered in several configurations:

1) Side Case system & ALS Mounts for Givi Monokey or SW Motech EVO: Includes two Caribou cases (35L, 36L or 40L sizes with lid locks, lid lanyards and internal retention straps), ALS mount system and all hardware. Cases are pre-drilled so all you have to do is bolt the ALS hardware together, no guesswork. Racks are not included and must be purchased separately from another vendor if you do not already have the racks.

2) Givi or SW Motech DIY System: Includes ALS mount system and all hardware. Racks are not included and must be purchased separately from another vendor if you do not already have the racks. Cases are not included. The Caribou ALS backing plate is your case drill template. Here is a photo of what you get (not pictured are the flange bushings that come with our kit for SW Motech Racks)…

3) Hepco-Becker-Caribou COMPLETE System: Includes two Hepco Becker Side Luggage Racks, Caribou cases (35L, 36L or 40L sizes with lid locks, lid lanyards and internal retention straps), ALS mount system and all hardware. Here we offer a complete turnkey system including the Hepco Becker side luggage racks. Cases are pre-drilled, all you have to do is bolt things together, no guesswork, no hassles. Price depends on case size, bike & rack.

4)
ALS Side Luggage for Hepco-Becker Racks: Includes two Caribou cases (35L, 36L, or 40L sizes with lid locks, lid lanyards and internal retention straps), ALS Mount system and all hardware. Racks are not included and must be purchased separately if you do not already have the racks. Cases are pre-drilled, all you have to do is bolt things together, no guesswork, no hassles.

5) DIY System for Hepco Becker Racks: Includes ALS Mount system and all hardware. Hepco-Becker racks are not included and must be purchased separately if you do not already have the racks. Cases are not included. The Caribou ALS backing plate is your case drill template.

We recommend Givi racks for light touring on pavement, SW Motech EVO for medium duty, and Hepco Becker for heavy touring on and off pavement, and of course our own Caribou racks for the toughest system you can get. Also, you can use the Caribou ALS DIY kit for just about any luggage that has a flat back (ammo cans, etc.).

OPTIONAL Hard Bolt Kit: Some of the newer Hepco Becker and SW Motech EVO side luggage racks have a 1/4-Turn fastener quick release system that allows you to remove a large section of the rack for those days you want to enjoy the clean lines of your bike without all the luggage rack clutter. A great idea, but when touring with a heavily loaded bike on and off road you may want to replace these 1/4-Turn fasteners with regular bolts to add strength and rigidity, especially since our ALS system already offers lockable quick attach/release of the case off and on the racks. For this reason we offer an optional Hard Bolt Kit that replaces the 1/4-Turn fasteners with Stainless Steel M8 bolts, nuts, washers and aluminum spacers.

Caribou ALS side luggage is available immediately.

The following is more info and many more photos....

Occasionally folks have a concern about packing & un-packing a side-loading case, so here are some valuable packing tips from our web site:
Some motorcyclists claim that when you open a side-loading case “everything falls out” or with a top loading case “everything you need settles to the bottom.” Experienced and savvy motorcyclists know better. If you cram a huge number of small, loose items in any type case you will have problems –guaranteed. Packing correctly is simple and will benefit users of side-loading, top loading, or any type of luggage. I honed my packing skills from decades of mountaineering, backpacking, and adventure motorcycle touring, and I’ll show you here exactly how to do it right.

One way to pack is to buy the inner bags made specifically for the luggage, organize your gear for left/right sides (read on for explanation), load them, and you are done...

Another way is to first organize your gear into nylon stuff sacks available from many outdoor retailers (REI). Put like items into different color/size sacks so you can easily identify what’s what, and always pack as light as possible…

Next, load the stuffed sacks into the main cavity of the case. Put items often accessed during the ride (food, water, maps, rain gear, clean clothes, etc.) in the right-side case (and top case if you have one). Put least-used items (camping gear, dirty clothes, tools & parts) into the left-side case. The reason for right/left side organization will become obvious shortly. Put maps/guides into the right lid cavity. Pull the elastic retaining straps together and clip them at the center…

NOTE: This can be done on or off the bike, but always put the bike on the center stand first.

There, you are done! Was that easy or what! Now when you stop for water, look at a map, or have a snack, put the bike on the side stand and open the right case. Nothing will fall out because the right case is pitched upward, the items are strapped in, and the lid cavity catches any loose items (observe the caribou lid lanyards that keep the lid from opening past 80 degrees creating a shelf). The bike will be more stable on the side-stand while rummaging through the right-side case compared to the left-side case…

If you need to access the left case, always put the bike on the center stand first.

At the hotel or camp site, put the bike on the center stand and open the cases to unload your gear. Nothing will fall out because items are strapped in. Any loose items will drop into the lid cavity since the caribou lid lanyards keep the lid from opening past 80 degrees creating a shelf...

If you use my method of packing you will enjoy motorcycle travel more, your gear is better protected and will last longer, and your riding partners will greatly appreciate not having to sit in the hot sun in their riding gear while you attempt to fish something from the huge pile of loose stuff crammed into your luggage.

Wee-Strom?

How far out do you suppose you are for the 650 V-Strom? I'm not in a rush, but hope to have a system in place my late March. I'm looking at some Givi knock-offs that are "OK" (I have one for a tail trunk) but these look like they're a lot more durable.

Keep this list posted on the progress.. I am VERY interested. (Maybe for the KLR too...)

Roger,

I'm impressed. Both with what you have come up with and with the Pelican company for being so responsive at a grassroots level. It looks like you have a good product at a good price and I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with for KLR's. I am currently running soft bags and ma pretty happy with my setup but I could be swayed. By the way, any idea what size bags for the KLR? As much as I like the capacity of the 1550's, I think that the 1520's are probably a better fit. Anyway, they look great.

Wow!

I've been waiting for years for something like this. BMW, TT, Jessie, and HB should be crying right about now! Excellent work. I'll be ordering mine come February. Thanks for giving us a better option than over priced Aluminum.
