I was just at the dealer today and the 2014 Tenere rear tail rack looks just like the earlier ones.

They also had the new V-Storm 1000 sitting right next to the new Tenere. The V-Strom looked smaller than the Tenere. It also had a very clean instrument panel area. Pretty nice bike. No time for test ride today.

Thanks for checking. As soon as I know when my Tenere is going to come in (slow getting to the Memphis, TN area) I'll be placing my order for this top case.

I looked closely at the Suzuki. Real nice bike, but like the shaft drive and cruise control. I will do some off road, but there is a lot of slab out there to cover to get to the places I want to ride. I also tour with some Harley guys. No off road for them!

Pelican 1500 compatibility

I'm very interested in your locking Pelicans but am pretty sure I'd rather have (slightly) smaller cases. Do you sell your locks separately and/or will they work with Pelican 1500 cases?

Yes, our locks do work with Pelican 1500 cases. Send me an email at sales@cariboucases.com

A shoutout to Caribou

I've had my cases for almost 2 years and 15,000 miles and couldn't be happier. Roger has been super responsive and helpful in indulging my whims (smaller than standard cases, locks and kits for other projects to set up my R1200GS). Great product, great support. Thanks, Roger!

I bought from the initial run back in 2003? Still working like a champ. I've replaced a latch after a get-off and updated them with the fabric side panels. Great product that stands the test of time.

How timely. I too am in need of a lock for the lid of my 1500.
Your "Caribou DIY External Latch Top Case Mount System" is listed for 1520 or 1550 cases. Will it work with 1500 also?
Based on the 8.875" and 8.5" dimensions shown in the installation manual, it'll fit on the flat space on the bottom of the 1500.

What brand/model is that top box? I don't recall having seen one in that proportion before.

Disregard that. It must be this one: Pelican iM2306 Storm Case. I've never really looked at the Storm cases, only at the traditional Pelican cases.

Thanks Roger for meeting me the other day. Not sure the round trip to Boulder from Denver was worth the $7 in shipping I saved, but it was nice to meet you. If I seem frazzled

I've inspected the kit and it looks to be very high quality and I'm sure it will be a breeze to install. I'll snap a photo and post it after I get my case mounted up, and maybe I'll make a video of the install if I can find a camera man.

Got the Caribou DIY External Latch Top Case Mount System-Deluxe kit installed yesterday, and I am really pleased with the setup!

It all went together pretty well except I did mount the latching plate a little high and then had to oversize the holes in the bracket to drop it down a little. No big deal though. Latch is quite snug now.

With the Alt Rider rack I did not need the latching plate for the Caribou Quick Release mechanism as it already has a rectangular opening for the latch.

All I had to do was shorten up the latch by moving the adjustment farther in maybe by 1/4".

I do have to sort of angle the box on and off to get the latch lined up in the hole but it is still pretty easy.

My only nitpick is that it sort of scratches my rack up but hey that was going to happen sooner or later anyway. Maybe Alt Rider should powder coat instead of anodizing their racks?

My hats off to Caribou for a real nice product with clear and simple directions.

Oh and if anyone around the Denver Metro area wants to borrow the drill bits suggested for the install then just PM me.

Hey Mighty,

FYI - If the Altrider rack is aluminum, then it will wear, so you really should use the high strength steel latch plate that we provided. It will also fit better I think. Anyway, thanks for posting!
