I already owned the Caribou Pelican Storm 36L cases for my BMW, so I opted to try them on the 1190 for just the cost of the Hepco-Becker racks.

The positioning may be somewhat unusual, but they clear the exhaust, provide symmetry without sacrificing volume, are air & water tight, are very rugged & durable, come on & off easily (as do the racks themselves), and aren't all that expensive.

I just got back from riding 1,275 miles of California's curviest roads over three days and I'm very happy with how the bike handled loaded as shown. My tires are worn to the edges and I certainly never had a fear of touching a case down!

I was looking at your DIY kits for the side cases but it states that they are not compatible with the oem ktm 950-990 racks. Is there a different HB rack system for the 950/990 bikes, and if so how do I tell the difference?

Sorry if this has been addressed but my computer wont let me search.

Yes, there is a difference between the racks that came with the KTM and the ones that HB makes for the aftermarket. HB still makes regular aftermarket racks for the KTM that do work with our kit.

You could do the internal quarter-turn fastener mounts like the photo above, or you may be able to use one of our external latch kits.... http://cariboucases.com/Do-It-Yourse...-Standard.html

This one comes with a lid lock kit.... http://cariboucases.com/Do-It-Yourse...orm-Cases.html

Thank you

for your response, both were very helpful. Looks like will have to drill if I go with either mounting option.

I just received the Caribou side racks and 35L Pelican Storm cases that I ordered from you and they look great! My 2013 Kawasaki KLR650 is in the shop having the suspension upgraded and I will install my luggage as soon as I get my bike back.

In the mean time, I have a question. My KLR has a SW-Motech steel rear luggage rack with Givi Monokey hardware. I see that you offer 25L cases for Givi Monokey side racks (GIVIALS25). Would it be possible to purchase just one 25L case set up for Givi Monokey mount to use as a top case on my KLR? If so, how much would it cost for the one case with Deluxe option (lid lock, gear retention and lid lanyards) set up as a top case?

Yes you can do this, and here is how it works. First get this kit here... http://cariboucases.com/Do-It-Yourse...-Standard.html and then get this case here... http://cariboucases.com/Cases-Only/S...-Lid-Lock.html and you are all set. I don't think you would want the lid lanyards and internal gear straps for a top case (these items go into side cases).

I think we'll create a new product category on our web site that bundles these items together so it is easier to purchase.

Thank you. When you're putting together the bundle for a top case, you may want to include a set of lanyards that are a little longer than those offered in the side case solution. Lanyards that let the lid open slightly past 90 degrees so that it will stay open, but not fold all the way open onto the seat. Just a suggestion.

36L Top Loading Side Luggage on the Vstrom 650?

Has anyone here put the 36L Top Loading Caribou (rated only for the Vstrom 1000) on their Vstrom 650? How does it handle?

Roger says they are physically compatible but not recommended because of width and weight. They are recommended larger cc's only.

Have installed my Caribou Pelican Storm-based cases on my KLR and love them. Very solid mounts and the cases look to be plenty rugged.

Have a multi-day mountain trip with my son scheduled in a few weeks. The route includes some nice long fire road sections that are dirt/gravel surfaced. Should provide a good test for my new bags.

Great photos! May we use them on our web site?
