Question How many times have you been down...

... lifetime, on the street, excluding: dirt, track, and slow speed tip-overs.

If you want, let us know what happened.... so we can learn from your unfortunate mistake (s).

Went down once on the street when I was 17 on my VF500. Since then I have enjoyed over 600k accident free street miles. In the dirt I have been down probably over 100 times and on the race track I have had 2 rather spectacular crashes.

"Rider fails to negotiate the turn"

In my defense - it was pea soup fog with rain, late at night and I had ridden all day....excuses, excuses.

Last time was Tuesday! Missed a turn on the Dragon in '03, and dropped the BSA back in '68. Trending is not good.

Twice, officially . . .

Once when I was learning how to ride 37 years ago, and again when I had rented a bike in Germany in '94. I was on a Kawasaki 750 and was riding with German friends who took a tourist route through some picturesque villages. I was looking at a church or something and turned back to the road to find I was on approach to a tight left-hander. The rear tire was brand new and it locked up when I hit the brakes (release compound), so I let go of the brakes and opted to exit the turn dirt-bike style, more-or-less under control. Cleared a 1 to 2 foot drainage ditch, bumped through a newly plowed field, and dropped her at low speed in a rut. No significant damage to the bike or me, 'cept a goose egg on my knee where I hit cylinder #4 on the way down.

I chalked it up to years of riding observed trials, where I always seemed to experience more falls (the unofficial kind) than the other guys.

Well, I think most of us were *planning* on not going down...

It's just the wording of the first poll choice, I'm a big believer in self-fulfilling prophesies.

Yup. Except mine was an entrance ramp. First time ever in 16 years of riding. About a month ago. There was rain and polished concrete and diesel fuel. 10-15 mph.

I had to have help getting the bike up 'cause my boots kept slipping.

You said dirt and stuff don't count? Whew!

My apologies.... the comments were obviously intended as jokes... but I can understand how one might be superstitious about checking that box, particularly given the subject.

Can an Admin. edit the comment off the "0" choice? I can't seem to edit it.

In my first buch of years riding, I used to crash all the time. I've bounced off cars, lowsided canyon turns, looped wheelies, you name it. I haven't crashed on the street for a long, long time now though.

I roadraced for a few seasons and crashed three times on the track. I knew guys who would crash three times in a weekend of racing, so I figured I was doing pretty well.

Now that I'm riding a lot of dirt, I fall off every once in a while, but it's generally not a big deal. I still seem to stay upright more than most of the guys I ride with.

Countless! Almost 30 years ago when I started racing speedway I started count how many times I got down. After 70 I lost interest ... to counting.

Then I started ice speedway and decided to be little more caryfull.

I don't even count how many times I crashed on motocross.
