'42 BMW Miltary Sidecar
A friend is doing some work on this for a customer of his. Apparently the guy found it in the Ukraine. As you can see from the photos, the thing is in incredibly good condition.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Iron Eagle and swastika stamped into sidecar frame. ![]() Some sort of official Nazi stamp ![]() The Nazi's were a bunch of assholes, but they sure built some cool military stuff!

The tubular thing in between looks like it may be a trailer hitch-possilbly telescopic. Thats my guess- anyone know fer sure?

It's a trailer hitch and it's spring loaded in that tube somehow. He fired it up for me also. first kick and the thing sounds bitchin'.

Nice outfit!
A pic, if i may of a mates outfit. ![]() 1962 CJ 750 ex PLA China. Restored by Long River Motorworks, Beijing. Early 2005. Imported into Australia, late 2005. It's an old beauty! Deserves it's own thread in oldschool. Rusty. Edit: The CJ is the Chinese copy of the Russian copy of the 1938 BM R71. Which was also made by HD during WW2. A less likely example of fine engineering produced in so many places. Bizarre. RustyGT screwed with this post 12-27-2005 at 02:44 AM |

I'm just about to pull the trigger on an 06 Ural...one thing I like about this older version is the single exhaust, mounted up high betwen the bike and the sidecar...cool rig...thanks for posting the pics.

Years ago one June, I rode out to Ft. Worth to meet with Friedel Munch (with whom I was negotiating to buy a Mammut) at a Munch convention held at the Ft. Worth BMW dealer. There were all sorts of variants of these bikes (many with mounted mg42s etc).
It was quite a party, I'm not sure if they still hold it, but that is a place to see some amazing WWII motorcycles. Unfortunately information about this technology is often suppressed along with everything else BMW did during those years... |

Yep, that there is my dream bike, even without the machine gun it would be a kick in the pants. I've never seen a picture of one towing a trailer, all chained up in low range I wonder how much weight it could pull? Bolt a winch on there and the ol' girl would be unstoppable. I'm not saying it would make a great logging rig, but I'd bet it could hold it's own on some pretty nasty back roads. I read some place that all three tires are interchangeable and as an added bonus, they were some kind of automotive tire.
I'd paint mine armor yellow, and give rides to all the pretty girls. |

Of interest...

That is probably a two speed rearend with stump pulling reduction. The hitch was probably used for transporting a heavy machine gun. Could not find any pictars. Note how the hitch release looks to be of the quick-release type. |
