Pics.Mavora Lakes. My last 2 weekends riding.

Today I went for a 100km ride to Mavora Lakes an back.

Getting closer to the turn off

Just after the turnoff

Park entrence

The lake. Some scenes in Lord of the Rings were shot here

After the road ends a 4WB or motorbike track starts

You can go round the lake edge in the loose gravel or thru the bush in the mud

The track goes for 2-3hours riding and there is several huts you can stay in.

I then turned around and went back out of the park and headed towards Mt Nicholas station across Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown.

I have just lost Smugmug will be back. All of this is within 30mins ride of my place.

Looks good. I've been into the Mavora lakes by 4x4 & mountainbike now, next Feb/Mar I hope to be down your way on the KTM & have another look by motorbike.
There are sooo many cool roads down there.

Cheers
Clint

Thanks Mate, will do. Hopefully there'll be 4 of us for a couple of weeks, I'm going to start trying to get the Gerbil Gang organised now so we can work around jobs, kids etc. I'd like to revisit some of the areas I've seen by 4x4, there are plenty more cool roads on the map & I'm sure you can direct us to a few interesting routes.
The 1st weekend in March would be as good a time as any to be on our way. Our mate in Geraldine has promised to hook us up with a bit of riding there on the way down & he is a keen rally-goer.

Cheers
Clint

Yep that's the way I would like to go. Is it still possible to load bikes on the Earnslaw in Queenstown?

Do you think BMW650 Dakar's would be Ok in that area? I can't find any dirt bikes yet and the hire companies seem to get a bit nervous when you ask for a 1200GS with knobbies

Smith898 who Toddy was showing thru the Nevis had hired an XT600, I think nz motorcycle rentals have them, but you can do most of the good bits of NZ pretty happily on a Dakar.

Of course if you're up north drop me a line so we can meet for a ride or a beer.

Cheers

Thanks, I'll look into it. We plan to head south at the moment but if it changes I'll be sure to get in touch. Thanks for the offer.

Cheers,

Danny

Yip the Earnslaw takes bikes, usually pays to book , Dakars are fine but Suzukis are better. Cheers Toddy
