Any Computer Geeks Out There??

Hi, all. I know this isn't about bikes, but I figure I would see what sort of talent we have out there.

I want to build my son a gaming PC with a budget of $700. Obviously not top of the line, but I want a good solid build.

The $700 does not include input devices, monitor or OS. I just don't have an idea what parts to buy.

Anyone out there that knows about this stuff? Maybe you can direct me to a good place to get this type of information?

Thanks.

You can email or PM me so we don't take up valuable thread space!

This is my rationale when looking for a computer and my opinion only. You will not be able to build a decent system for $700. You will need a case, motherboard, chip, ram, power supply, video card, hard drive, dvd drive and the expertise to assemble it all. And dont forget you will need an operating system-this is pricey by itself...I gave up using pirated ones because it is such pain trying to update them.
For decent quality of the above you have just blown your budget.
My solution:
Wait for Black Friday or Boxing day and buy a system. This one popped up at Best Buy this weekend

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...rchPageIndex=1

It has decent specs out of the box: fast chip, lots of ports, good amount of ram. After connecting it to the internet, I would update all programs and install the latest drivers. If it is still running with no hiccups, I would then unhook it, go to my nearest Canada computers or Tiger direct and buy a 500+ W power supply and a quality video card. Install these, drivers etc and you are good to go.
I checked a US site and the system alone was selling for $700.

Read today

With Vancouver recently being named the worst city for traffic in North America and British Columbia potentially also being home to Canada's worst car crashes, it's no wonder 79 per cent of all Canadian drivers recently confessed to feelings of road rage.

With both Toronto and Montreal statistically not far behind either, a new country-wide study by Allstate Insurance has found Sunday to be the 'safest day to drive' in Canada. According to the data collected, Thursdays and Fridays were rated as the worst days to drive with the highest risks and collision rates.

"We can assume perhaps those are heavy commuter days and perhaps those are days when there's more socializing going on so you're doing more on the road after work," says Nicole Watts from Allstate Canada.

Although car crashes across Canada can be caused by a number of things from poor road conditions to distracted driving, the Safe Driving Study surprisingly found that collision rates across Canada actually went down by 5.3% overall.

"We are encouraged to find that collisions are decreasing across the country, and we hope this trend continues," says Saskia Matheson, spokesperson for Allstate Canada. "Many car collisions are avoidable, so reinforcing the message of safe driving is a priority for Allstate Canada."

However, out of the 50 communities studied, the five areas with the largest increase in collisions are all in Ontario - Milton (21.51 per cent increase), Kingston (17.12 per cent), Georgetown (10.21 per cent), Hamilton (8.87 per cent), and Kitchener (8.66 per cent increase in collisions).

Agreed. I have since upped my limit, and bought all the bits I need today on line.

Thanks for the suggestion.
