If I were you I'd buy it for max @ 1/3 of it's current blue book value. If it's ****ed, you can always part it out on eBay and make some money, otherwise why would you want to take on someone elses problems and pay good money for it ?

Also because it's from out of province, before you commit $1 you should spend a day there (in Quebec) and check with the DMV to make sure there's clear title, no liens, etc. and check with the MTO as to what it would take to register the bike in Ontario. If the seller balks on cooperating for any of this, walk away right now.

You guys don't know how good you have it here in Ontario!

I had a single minor speeding ticket on my record, no crashes, and I'm 29 years old. Got my licence 3 years ago through the Humber College safety course, and I still have my M2. Was riding a '79 Honda CB750K until this summer when it died, and I replaced it eventually with an '06 Multistrada 1000S. Shopping around for insurance for that bike and a Buell Ulysses (my other choice) kept returning insurance rates of $5000-$8500 a year. Seriously! I laughed outright at the first person that quoted me such a figure. Then got progressively more depressed and angry as it kept happening.

In the end, Stae Farm was easily the best quote I got at about $1200 a year, but I needed to also insure a car or house with them, neither of which I had. I very nearly bought an old beater car just to get cheaper bike insurance, but in the end took the next best quote I got: $2600/yr from JD Smith (Kingsway Insurance). They were recommended to me by the local Ducati dealer as a sympathetic motorcycle (and Ducati) insurer...

The frustrating thing is that Riders Plus refuses to insure any Ducati on principle, so I couldn't even get a quote with them. Nevermind that a Multistrada and a 999 or 1098 are completely different bikes attracting a completely different rider...

I've been told to expect a significant discount this year when I turn 30 years old, and my one minor speeding ticket will be wiped off my record, but I can't imagine 'significant' will mean cutting my rate by two thirds to bring it inline with what you gentlemen are getting.

Would anyone by a repaired bike..from Quebec?
Hey R'oli

Big Doug has some very good points, especially checking out the title. I have heard that a lot of stolen cars make their way to Qbc via chop shops and then end up being sold back to Ontario. The paper I work for did an investigative piece about five years ago. Not sure if the problem still remains or if it translates to bikes... but...? It is something to think about.

Cheers

Hey Neighbor

Still haven't got the heads back yet. But I also haven't done a follow-up call either. I know that if I had them in the house I'd go nuts wanting to geth the bike back together and that would severely cramp the new baby routine. Things in that respect are going really, really well. The little guys are adjusting better than their parents. I'm at the point where I'm so sleep deprived I'm seeing things. I swear I saw Carlos' sisters in my garage last night.

Cheers

Fin

I pay $1200 a year for full coverage on my new 12GSA with the personal. I have been with them for years though and have no violations or accidents. My KLR was $343 PLPD. Maybe living in Toronto isn't all its cracked up to be?

I think Toronto is a Class 1 insurance area, which would be the highest rates in the province...

at least that's what some insurance guy told me.

Unfortunately it's not just Toronto, but the surrounding areas as well. I've been with Primmum forever it seems and three years ago I started dropping the
"extras" off of the policy to get it bare bones from $1800 per year for a 2000 BMWK1200RS and a mid forties riders with 30 years driving experience. So I got the policy down to $1280, the next year they jacked it up to $1390 and this year they wanted over $1500. Screw them, I went shopping.

So I called Riders Choice, they gave me a policy at just under $1000 bucks, the only difference being $1000 deduct vrs $500. And get this, for my new KTM950, they only wanted $620 A few years ago I tried to put a XR650 on the Primmum policy and the wanted $975.

Primmum and Jevco started off being pretty good, but have
really increased thier premiums. Jevco started off as a "motorcycle only" company, used motorcyclists to build thier assets, and then screwed them over after that, as far as I can tell...

I actually switched from Rider's Plus to Jevco this spring because they quoted me about $350 less (I ended up paying Jevco ~$600 with theft on an F650GS). A month later, when the insurance (with Rider's Plus) on my previous ride expired, they contacted me to find out why I didn't renew. When I told them about the price difference the woman on the phone looked up my acct and the past quote and then apologetically explained to me that the person who'd given me the quote was a disgruntled employee on her last day.... Still, the quote Rider's Plus would have given me was in range with what I paid Jevco. Primmum was much more. To make things even stranger, it's my understanding that Primmum owns Jevco.

Come springtime when I have to renew, I'll get quotes from them all. When it comes to insurance, I don't believe in loyalty or grudges, only $$.

Yup, I show them the same level of loyalty they've shown me!

well, here is one more for the books... Insured with Kingsway for $1400, which dropped to $1350 (04 KTM 950), then decided to give Meloche Monnex (Security National) a try as they have my house and business policies... rates were just over $1300 but much better payment plan that suited me more! - so the switch happened.

Actually as I find their policy on payments interesting you pay your policy either up front or 7 equal payments which start towards the end of February as that is their policy year start date.

My original policy with Kingsway was in Sept, so instead of renewing with Kingsway this Sept I canceled and moved to Security National. Because of their early year start date the difference based on their sliding scale of people not really riding in the colder months This amount was something like $60 for the 3-4 months (it might have been a bit more, something like that).

Well, I get all these rumours of Riders Plus who ironically were my original Brokers way back when when I started to ride and sent them an email. Mike was very helpful as I did everything via email and he quoted me $741 !!! pretty sweet! all I can think of is how am I going to spend the extra $600 on my bike!! actually i think the wife already earmarked it for our new woodstove! but as we (or we should all know) keeping the wife happy allows us to do more things that keep us happy!!!

3 Cheers for Riders Plus!!

mine came in the mail today

from Riders Plus...1200gs 2005, bare bones policy, $501.00 Maybe we could do an ADV group buy and get an additional 10-15% off !

If anyone wants a really good deal on an ICON Milspec vest: it comes to $49.00 U.S. which includes shipping, and is cheaper than can be found elsewhere on the ADV website:

Looks like you got a much better deal. They told me they would take 10%
off my additional bike as well.
