Morocco: the sheltering sky

Hello ,

my report from our trip last summer. Bikes on the trailer to Algeciras ( 3 days ride for us).
So we started with our fresh new knobs in Morocco.
Maybe our timing of season was a bit off but we went anyway

Yes it was hot out there,

Meknes, camping just outside the citywalls . We could walk to the soukhs.

Nobody got hurt here,

Try a Riad !, they offer the best atmosphere

On El Hedim square two Moroccan ladies offered us a piece of fresh baked ‘beignet’; ain’t that nice! Here we enjoyed the famous moroccan tea with a view on the beautiful Bab Mansour.

Soukh`s are just great for stroling around,

Fès is famous for its tanneries:

Nougat anyone?

The souq was crowded and messy in a nice sort of way; everywhere men were busy with the delicate work of sewing the beautiful jabalas for women or spinning colorful thread, just next to the camel butcher or the olive shop!

We enjoyed the delicious set dinner in restaurant Dar Jamai, where they even got wine (no beer though)!

The King (Morocco of course),

On our way to Midelt,

At Midelt we took the turn to Auberge Jaffar. After 6 km of gravel road it came in sight: just like a fairytale!

Where tea was ready for us,

Here we rode Cirque du Jaffar. Hardly any signs to lead us, but you meet enough shepherds and running children (wherever do they come from in this middle of nowhere???) to ask directions.

Friendly people,

Next day we drove to Merzougha and stayed in the Ksar Sani a lovely kasbah with even a pool

Lounge,

Interior of the bungalow,

All you need : a pool and a beer

I went out early morning 4 am or after 6 pm , it was too hot during the day ( 50 c )

Wilma hates sand! Its too soft she says

After 2 days we leave Merzougha again and as we drove on we came along beautiful kasbahs; sometimes deserted ruins.

Great Pix

Thanks for sharing those pictures. Very cool. Here is a quick question for anyone willing to answer. Please forgive my ignorance but .... When you adventure out into other countries ... How do you get your bikes over there? Do you ship them over? or do you rent bikes in the other country?

Ride safe,

Ric

Great shots, love the dunes & interior pics.

Looks like you picked up some sort of small animal to sit on along the way.
