Early Production Possibility!
Cool! I sent the seats today cause I already had a spare set for just this occasion. I would really like to have the seats back before March 10, for our annual Spring Break ride! Thanks for the tip!

I have about 3K miles on it, and I have yet to hurt. My longest day, though, has only been about 400 miles since I got it, but it seems to work well for me. Jim ![]()

Got my RDL seat recently and love it.
It has more fore and aft room than I thought it would so you can move around and change position. Perfect shape and the quality is outstanding. I did get the heated option and leather insert with the half moon and the "overload spring" (I'm 227Lbs.w/o Stitch and boots). I put horizontal strip of tape on the sides of my stock seat with numbers every few inches so that when I took the photos they could tell exactly where my fat butt was located. Great communications about the fit and mods. Do not hesitate to call and talk to them!! I rode one Corbin for 65K and really did not have any problem with it, but this is RDL is so much better! .

I wish I could say the same for my RMC. Sent it back already once for an adjustment, it's better but my butt is still hurting within 100 miles.

Packrat, let's see some pics!
This thread is older than my memory's retention, I may have mentioned that I had 4 Rick Mayer saddles before I got the Russel. I'd never go back, not just because of the comfort level of the Russel being far superior to the Rick Mayer, which I thought was a great seat till I tried the Russel. Plus, it was a pleasure dealing with Russel: I talked to the seat builder who was assigned to build my seat, told him exactly what my issues were, repeated this in the letter with the seat and I got satisfaction. The seat isn't soft and cushy like you'd think it would be to be comfortable.. it's fairly stiff but provides superior comfort. I've done 12 hours in the saddle, no sore butt at all.. I'd say the Rick Mayer seat is good for 6 hours. When I did 12 hours in it, I had to ride with one butt cheek hanging in the air I was in that much pain.. (Ya I know, pull over and take a break... but I was on a cross country ride and wanted to keep going. ). If going with Rick Mayer, do it over the winter if you don't ride then, because his timelines are guesstimates at best.

I'm a little confused even after reading the faq's on day-long's site. If I want just the front done for an r1150gs do they use my seat pan or their own seat pan. And if the latter do they want mine in trade?
I see "If you're having a Saddle built on your seat pan..." so it appears as though I have a choice.

They normally build them on your seat pan. You have to send yours in advance unless they happen to have a spare around. You might want to give them a call and confirm.

I read this thread right thru...great information! Decided to order Russells' for both the 650GS and 12GSA. Great folks at RDL. BTW, my build date is Feb 28/08...Heather indicated there is a FJR group buy going on now, so if anyone wants a seat before spring...production spaces are filling up fast. |

Dang Raydar, that's a mighty purdy seat there. Just curious what the final price was for all that purdy work. I cheaped out and got a Rick Mayer front seat only and made my own back rest. I feel like I wasted $400 on the seat and RMC seems ridiculous to talk to. He doesn't respond to emails and the last 2 times I've called I got a recording. The seat has been back once already, I don't feel like waiting another 2 weeks to have him adjust it again.

bwlinx: my experience with Rick Mayer is hit or miss.. if it's good, it's good, if it doesn't fit you right.. it's a lost cause, plus his money back guarantee is full of big loopholes.
Raydar: on costRaydar that setup looks more comfortable than sitting in a La-z-boy.. That backrest is huge but it sure looks like it's designed for maximum comfort.. Thanks for the pics and feedback.. Your butt and back will thank you
