Methed - Yep, Fatty's 06 is probably as good as a new one. He's been a pioneer in creatively resolving Uly issues. Is FatBstrdville a County or City??

It's a state of mind.

Hey, just getting back into biking. Have ridden just about everything out there. thought about it alot and decided an adventure tourer was the right style for me after reading The Healing Road. Looked at BMWs, then at Buells. Fell in love with the Uly! Why didn't this bike catch fire?
I'm just getting acquainted with my bike and getting it set up for touring. hope to see you on the road!

Just my opinion but two reasons,
1) Early model Buells had some quality issues, and even some of the Ulys had a few weak spots.
2) Really poorly thought out marketing plan by the motor company. They limited the sales of these sport adventure bikes to Harley Davidson shops. Not a lot of part time pirates want to go off piste, and not a lot of ADV riders want to go into a HD shop.

A bit like tying to sell Playboy magazines exclusively through Disney stores.

06 and 07 50mpg 08 and later more like 40-45 the way I ride 'em.

Can't speak for sensibly.

They require Premium.

This bike require premium gas.

I achieve 43-47mpg on fully loaded trips (1 up) on the road.

Mine runs on 95 petrol nicely enough but if it's hot it likers 98 better. I've found that since I fitted a K&N filter it uses about 3 miles per imperial gallon more!! Better consumption on 98 but was better pre K&N. sTRANGE.

Yeah do not make the mistake I made and run regular for 3 weeks as your brain farts out and then wonder why it runs like absolute shit.

This is after 2 years of riding it, completely stroked out and ran 89 for 3 weeks at the beginning of last season.

25K miles on my '08, including New Mexico to Brazil. I almost never use premium, mostly regular, lowest octane fuel at the pump. Runs like a top. Regular is not a problem for the Uly. ECM can even handle up to 15% alcohol fuel. It sucks on mpg, but works. 60-45 mpg. Safe the money for good beer.
For all the waisted heat and noise, the thing is remarkably efficient honking 1200cc air-cooled dinosaur.

Fuel mileage

My 06 usually gets 45-50 mpg with a K&N air filter on 91 octane. I use the higher octane fuel because I don't know how long it might me parked before I get a chance to throw a leg over it again. I have run lower grade fuels when I have gone on longer rides and it doesn't act any different.
