I would really like to try either one of these bikes, The motard or dual but the the barely 2.0 gallon gas tank is a huge turn off. I'd be stopping for a gallon of gas every other day... a real pain in the ass. Riding my ninja 250 full time, I stop every 6 days.

Size 40 pilot jet

Does anyone know the part number for the size 40 pilot jet? I've been running the rejetted carb and Muzzy exhaust on the klx250s since 2006 with out a change to the pilot jet. Cold weather starting is poor. I'm hoping the pilot jet change will improve starting.

Jim:
A larger pilot jet will help starting, but a better fix is to drill the enricher jet out to 0.018". This makes a huge difference on the hard to starters.

I put in a #38 pilot on the 250, HMF muff, open airbox, and it was toooo rich (but I'm at 2,500 ft and up). Went back to the stock #35.

Here's your numbers:
pilot jets
N424-25-#38 kawi p/n 92064-1050
N424-25-#40 92064-1108

I'm about ready to get a gas tank for my KLX250S but I'm torn between the 3 gal IMS (for simplicity) or the 3.7 gal Acerbis (for capacity). I know the Acerbis requires a little work, like moving a wiring harness and shortening the choke lever. That's okay since I'm going to do a DynoJet kit in a couple of weeks so I'll shorten the choke lever at that time. I think the Acerbis is nice looking especially since the green matches so well, and I'm not all that happy with the 2010 black and green side panels (compared to the 2009 all green side panels). And the Acerbis is about $50-70 cheaper too.

Anybody with the Acerbis wish they had gotten the IMS instead? Or vice versa?

Rob

I have the Acerbis on '06. Trimmed a little off the choke handle side, making it "D" shaped. Didn't make it shorter. Absolutely happy with it. Good radiator protection.

Are you sure the Acerbis fits on the 09 and up? I thought that was the reason for the IMS coming out with one made for those years. Just wondering.

Bumblebee:
Many have installed the Acerbis on 09+. Check this out: http://gsnorcal.smugmug.com/gallery/5326416_wmUMY#!i=325391696&k=swZcE

Hey guys. Been thinking of modernizing my dualsport and the KLX is on my short list.

Anyone here ridden both the DR350S and a 2009+ KLX250S extensively? Wondering how they compare in off-road performance. I don't really care about on-road performance since for me a plate is just to get me to and from the trails.

Reason I ask about 09+ is I'm in California and I think that's the first year of the 50-state bikes.

Thanks

I'm looking for some used items.

Good condition stock tires(like someone bought a new KLX250 and decided they wanted different tires)

Aftermarket slip on OR KLX300 exhaust.

I'd love an exhaust too if you find more than one.

For tires, unless you really mean dirt cheap, you can get a set of the Kenda 760 Trackmaster II's from Rocky Mountain ATV for about $100 for the pair. I want a set of these for my bike before our Death Valley trip next month.

I had a chance to buy a decent 2003 Kdx220r. I got it Home studded tires rode around in the snow a bit loved it. I got a good deal on it so I'm going resell it on craigslist but after riding it I don't know if I wanna sell it anymore. It makes a nice stablemate to my KLx. I thought the Klx would be jealous so I got it out of the barn and road it around. Even without studded tires it had way more traction and I realized how much I really do like that bike. Won't be selling that one anytime soon

Those H-series KDX's are great bikes...I had a long affair with a '95 200 myself. If you decide to keep it, you should swap the piston to aftermarket (Wiseco) if it hasn't already been done, as the stock 220 piston has a tendency to shatter after some hours pile up. No such problem with the stock 200 pistons though. Other than the OEM 220 pistons, those bikes are super durable.

Already planned on the piston swap if I keep it. Thinking about pirating parts off it for the klx if I sell it. like I said thou. They look good together

I have the stock tires sitting in my barn have 500 miles on them. 30 bucks apiece plus shipping I'll box em up and ship them to you

Does the Pirelli MT43 rear trials tire fit on this bike?
