Wish I'd known about the ADV shipping discount when I ordered my SC foam/cover kit early this week.
Wouldn't have expected free but a discount would have been appreciated.

I'll be taking mine to an upholstery shop to get the cover stapled on. I took one staple out to measure it, 3/16". Then I tried my quite new stapler with a 1/4" staple. No success. Did the 5/16" poke to the outside of the seat pan?

A few have shimmed their needle, but I'm not recalling many who claim much success. I don't want to discourage you from trying it and letting us know how it goes, though. Common replacements in the US seem be the Kaw N1TC needle and the DynoJet needle (different kit numbers available; I used the #2206 I believe, made for the KLX300 but which works on the 250).

Thumb Never hurts to ask!

Two thumbs up for Seat Concepts

After reading about the free shipping for AVDers at Seat Concepts I sent an email inquiring about a discount for shipping to Canada. Just got notification that I got a generous discount (already refunded) for the shipping.

A big "Thank You!" to Seat Concepts!!

Seat Concepts

I called Seat Concepts before I ordered on line. The fellow I talked to ask me how I heard of Seat Concepts. I told him I read about their product at Adventure Riders. He told me I would get a 15 dollar discount. I suggest calling before ordering and he will tell you how to order on line to receive their discount. A special code must be typed in when ordering on line. It works. About the 5/16" staples. There is enough seat cover material to install the 5/16" staples in the flat part of the seat pan not on the edges.

More on Seat Concepts

I went to their site earlier today to inquire about an ADV discount and they responded darn quick with a 'code' to enter. So I just placed an order using the code and they applied the discount. If they want to code plastered everywhere, I'll let them do that. Seems like these folks are working pretty hard to gain customer support.

I got the SC foam and cover a few months back. Even without the discount, it's worth every darn penny!

I don't have the MT43, but am running a trials tire. Its a shinko "golden boy" 3.5 x 18. This is my third rear tire on the bike, and I love it. Trials tires provide a great grip on most all conditions and are 'easy' on the trail for us environmentally sensitive folks. It doesn't do so well in deep mud, deep sand, and deep dry loose cake-flour soil. But I rarely ride in that stuff anyway. I'll probably be looking for the MT43 some time in the future.

6th gear

I have nearly 900 miles on mine now. I opened it up east of town in 6th gear a little while ago. An indicated 82 mph is all it would do and I held it down a while. I have heard they will go faster in 5th. I didn't try that.

If your speedometer is anything like mine (and a lot of them) subract 10% to get the real speed. For it to do anything in 6th you pretty much have to almost hit redline in 5th. Headwind/hill will cut into 6th use real quick.

I'm still looking for a pipe and some cheapo street tires or some stock tires someone with more offroad ambitions than me took off their bike.

email is best bet to reach me

notchstang87 at yahoo dot com

I think part of my handling issues are an overly narrow rear tire

Im also looking for a low mile used chain. Mine has a kink from using a torch to head up countershaft sprocket bolt.

Shinko 700 or 705's. Both are cheap. The 700's are closer to the OEM tires (but more street-oriented)... the 705's are very street oriented but still do respectable off-road. I've run both on my DR650. I got 3600 miles out of my last 700 rear and 5000 out of my last 705 rear.

I checked Motorcycle Superstore and the 705 comes in a better selection of rear sizes (the 700's only come in a 4.60-18 which is a tad wide for the KLX).
