My 02 lc4 has almost 11,000 miles now. No problems, just a couple oily spots around oil lines .

over 25,000 miles (40,000k) on the '02 640 Adventure since new with only a head gasket. That number should be around 27,000 miles by the end of February after the Baja trip

10,500 miles (16,800k) on the '97 620 and most of them by the previous owner. New head, pulsar generator, starter free hub, stator... There was some other minor stuff that I forgot. The previous owner thrashed the nuts off it.

I have 33,000 kms on my 2002 LC4 E.

Replaced main shaft bearing before it gave me any grief.

excellent bike.

So far up to 18000 km on my 03 Adventure, only a weeping valve cover to report, warranty fix it didn't work so its up to me. Looks like you [Loaded] put on a few kliks since you were up this way. Cheers.

i've got 23,000 miles on my '99 640.

things gone bad:
water pump bearings
ignition shorted
minor oil leak around rocker arm box (fixed 3x, still leaks)
centerstand mounting bolts wore through frame mount from vibration
doing some "open heart" surgery this weekend, found the slide needle worn 2/3 through near the neck.

so nothing too major. lots of little things along the way. hoping to see 50k miles within 2 years.

'99 LC4 in supermoto trim. Ran for 23300 miles (37500km) then self-destructed.
Still figuring out what went wrong, but consensus is crank pin failure.
Work done: fork seal + pitted stanchion replaced, snapped chain and replaced the 'bearing of doom' preventatively (even though it's not an 02 model). Starter motor on the way out (worn brushes). And replaced sidestand spring after I trashed it by kickstarting with the stand down.

02 Adv, 32k kms.

Water pump
Base gasket
main bearing
couple of oil leaks
Keeping the fastener shop in bidness replacing bolts it loses.

New ugly sound in motor, suspect big end conrod bearing. Gotta tear it apart.

Issues. Always issues. Can't ride it more than a thousand k without having to fix it. Fun to ride when it's running.

If I had the money, it'd be gone. Very disappointed in the cost of ownership with this thing.

Stator clutch

Is the stator Clutch a problem with the 640 LC4 engine? I have an 03 and my mate has an O3, on the weekend we pulled up for a chat and went to ride off again, when the mates bike wouldn't start, the starter would just make a wizzing sound. he then kick started the bike, which fired just fine. Then a crack appeared in the stator cover and oil came rushing out. We pulled this cover off and there were five hex head bolts which were sheared off. Can any one shed some light on what happened and why?????

Regards,

JM

Just looked at the engine parts manual & it looks like the bolts that hold the one way starter clutch to the flywheel have broken/sheared. Best guess would be that they have somehow come loose allowing freeplay betwen starter clutch hub & flywheel. Eventually the bolts have sheared off & caused the damaged you described. In hindsight if you had not kickstarted the bike but pulled the cover off you could have removed the broken bolts before they wedged & broke the casing. Who would have guessed huh?
