Question Just ordered 60CS, what software to buy?

After some research ordered 60cs... now what? What software I need? Do I need: US Topo, City Navigator or MetroGuide? I lost! Help!
I going to use gps for trail rides on my Husky, some rides around on my V-Strom and may be sometimes in a car.

Thanks in advance!

I have US Topo, but the City Navigator is avaliable for it too. Depends on where you will be most. Offroad? Topo. Onroad? City Nav.

Johntm hit both nails on the head.
60cs will get you city to city(and in and around)with the base map.
topo cd will be necessary for trail and it will draw all streets in the city,it just won't name them.
enjoy the 60cs,it is one of my top three
and 1st choice for your husky use

Just back from Prudhoe Bay, IMO it was really worth the trip, AK is a beautiful place & you need lots of time to take it all in. I'm looking forward to returning & exploring some places i didn't have time to ride.RIP Ron Melton

Odd...up here in Canada, I prefer Metroguide, and find Topo just
makes a big mess on my screen, giving me a bunch of information
I don't care about. I get the same "roads" using either program.
Maybe the US version of Topo shows trails? The CDN version sure doesn't.

sometimes turn off(uncheck)the mapset you are not intrested in at the moment, and turn off contor lines and all other stuff that is not pertinent.

also,i am sure just made trails will not show up on anything.

As an aside, the 60CS base map is borderline worthless. The level of detail is astoundingly sparse.

I'd start with City Select or City Navigator, then go to more specialized databases if you feel the need. (I'm a little unclear what the difference is - when I bought mine it was just City Select - I think they're built on the same database. Perhaps someone could chime in with the difference.) These products will auto-route on your GPS, have excellent urban detail and surprising backroads detail. In fact, I've found City Select to be better in some cases than more backroads-oriented products like Roads and Rec. So I'd start with one of these two.

I'm not a fan of U.S. Topo at all for road use. The topographic countour lines consume a lot of memory and the data is unbelievably out of date - they often don't show roads that were built forty years ago! When I got my 60CS, I thought it would be handy to have both City Select and Topo so that I could see elevation changes while I drive, but the GPS will only show one map or the other, so the Topo never gets shown.

I still like the old Metroguide USA. It has much more back road detail than citynav and it also shows mountain tops, with the name and elevation. It's old as the hills. I should check and see if the new Metroguide is similar or if was Navteq'ed (I hate Navteq).

What is the newest version? (too lazy to Google) I'm running Metroguide USA5, and Metroguide Canada4. I also have TopoCanada, but never use it,
'cause it's a memory pig, and I really don't like the clutter.

I have yet to find a GPS that has a base map that is worth a crap. Are you saying that some are better than others? I though all Garmin GPS base maps showed interstates, major state highways, larger citys and a larger lakes and rivers. Thats the same as the 60cs. Who uses the base map anyways? Its kind of like saying that using the built in note pad in XP sucks for editing documents. Why would you want to use it?

Yes, they are different and some are better. The 60 series have a basemap that occupies 8mb of memory, the 76 series has a 13mb basemap and offers a decent amount of detail. I use it for driving, so far it's worked fine.

Very interesting. Where do you find the information on what size the base map is? What size base map is the 2610 / NavII?
TIA

I called Garmin when I was trying to decide between a 76 and a 60.

I need a battery cover for my C60. Does anyone know if Gamin will sell individual parts?
