I was wrong it's not private property, it's goverment property on that end and it did have a gate of some kind up in the past but it has been removed. I was told it has been closed off for the last 1 1/2 - 2 years. Did you ride across a tank trap? If so from that point back to Pumpkin Center is all off limits.
Looks like they would take better care of thier gates, don't it.

Sounds good to me...come a little warmer weather which allows camping out...I intend to dedicate some serious time to getting to know the areas which are just beyond my normal day ride distances. There's a whole world of good riding that I've mostly skipped over because it's too far for a round trip day ride, but too close for those 1 to 2 week trips...

Hi Rebelrob! I might be coming your way soon to do some snow tubing! Berkeley County isn't bad. I'm just new to the area and do not know the roads well yet.

Thats what I would like to do in the Glen Lynn area. There is no way to check all that out in one day and very few things beat a night camping on the river in my book.

And here's the spot:

nice little waterfall, just a few miles in on the dirt road that runs along the river from Glen Lyn.

Sherpa,

There's a lot of great little backroads and forest roads in your area, too. We've been talking about camping at Douthat or that campground on VA/WV 39 (can't remember name) and exploring .... Any advice?

thanks,

Are you GPS compatible ... I'm in the process of mapping out several tracks, in my area and one all the way from the Maryland to NC border. I rode through Douthat yesterday and picked up some dirt/gravel that I was able to string together a route all the way north of Harrisonburg with very little pavement.

I don't know which campground on 39 you're referring to...got a more precise location?...there are lots of beautiful primitive campsites around in the Forest Lands too....
