Well, at least nobody can accuse you of having your chain too tight!

Nice bike...

Yep, the linkage tightens things up a tad when my fat ass is sitting on the bike....but I generally keep it within a few whiskers of slapping the swingarm from underneath.....which is also per KTM specs...

Hey guys,

I am considering adding an LC4 to the stable again, just so I have something to ride around while I take the DR apart.

I found an Adventure locally, cheap and low kms. It's advertised as a 97:

Got a few questions that I hope you can help me with:

- Can the year be right if it doesn't have the low pipe?
- I prefer the later model plastic for the rear, does this bolt on or do I need a newer subframe?
- What can I do for engine reliability, other than the roller bearing upgrade?

Thanks!
Lukas

Lukas, I did that conversion on my E/GS along with the exhaust conv. It was pretty easy, I just welded on some spacers to the top of the subframe. I think I also welded some nuts to the bottom, can't recall for sure. Worked fine until the subframe started cracking in a few spots from age and abuse. Then I replaced it with one from an '03 which required no modification.

Just get it Lucas... you can do a vin year check online; its funny I like the old plastic...I have seen a wood block used on the old subframe to do the new fender but in sure something can work... anything newer will bolt up and partouts are aplenty for upgrades!! sorry to say but it beats the DR anyday..

I would change crank seal, check oil bypass piston and spring and the check oil pumps and jets.. all things could be done cheap and wise.. Lubrication is key on these.. valve adjust, harness check, new coolant and relube, antisieze and loctite of everything

Thanks for the info, sounds like this is easily doable. LC4 subframes are a dime a dozen here as well, so I might snag one on Ebay.

You know not what you speak of my friend. Or you haven't seen my DR! (and how could you, I don't have any pics yet that show the latest mods)

But I am going to look at the 97 as well as an 98 rolling chassis this weekend. Both are affordable and I need a project here in Vienna anyway (my DR is in Madrid).

Good stuff, thanks! Not sure how far I should trust myself to work on the engine, after seeing your thread I might be tempted to add Wossner piston, some head work, 660 crank and a cam....

I've been reading and re-reading this thread for throughout the day.

I've pulled the trigger, and I'm waiting the hear back. I would think it will be about 10 to 14 days from now ...... I'll be posting some pics.

Thank you sir .... thank you.

And!

Here she is ......

Now on to going through her ..... like swapping out the carb, it has the edelbrock in it - but it also came with a Mikuni to throw in.

More later - as I am working off a mild hang over from Dagwood's B-Day party yesterday ..........
