While reformatting the index I found out that this is not entirely true; there is a "pp" parameter which explicitly states the number of posts per page. So if you link to a page you should also use pp, for example:

...showthread.php?t=41674&page=3&pp=15

Good eyes warewolf! But that might take quite a few bad movies to add onto the links...

Meat,
Thanks for the tip on the advanced search. If you have a cure for computer ignorance please PM me.

It starts with website's adequately labeling functions. The advanced search was labeled, but when Baldy did some work on the software the label disappeared. If you think its a big deal drop him a line in his forum down below ("ask baldy, blame fish").

Website "functions" and all that...

The MOST users online that KTMtalk has ever logged is 392. At this very moment, ADVrider has 1382 users online. Notice that that's not the most we've had at one time (far from it), it's right at this very moment. KTMtalk currently has 1,440,073 posts stored. ADVrider has 2,873,120. If things continue at the current pace, we'll have roughly doubled our membership by this time next year. Something's gonna have to give.

It's been talked about in the past, but to make a long story short, advanced search is somewhat hidden because it saps resources in a big way.

Please help by using Google to search the site, as described in this help forum thread long ago.

Oh, and thanks again to MP for his thread index efforts.

Good info Arch - thanks for putting it in perspective. I could add a Google site search to the top of the index...

Oh, and you're welcome mang.

major update planned

There is a long overdue major update to the index in the works. I have been busy moving across the country, for nothing , and then back again. Trying to get resettled right now...

Anyways, I have gone through about a year of my own thread tracking and picking nominees for the index. But the index's two posts are full, so I was trying to go through them and select threads to "demote" into a third post. But I was having trouble, because I didn't have a good criteria for this whole business anyways. Surprised?

The existing criteria is "essential" vs. "optional", but what is essential to one owner is not to many, many others. Heck, it might be essential to only one inmate! So last night while rappin' with Mrs. Popsicle about a related subject we came across a new criteria!

New Criteria:

Useful to All

Useful to Many

Useful to Some

Of course something like a mainshaft bearing update is not useful to post 2002 owners, but it is useful to all pre-2003 owners, so things like that will be in the Useful to All category.

Finished this round

Sucks to fall a year behind on that - just check out all the orange... those are the new additions!

So if I get bored again I will be going through the threads and demoting some more down (so I can promote some up that are worthy). While I am at it I might add a blurb to each link, starting with Post #1. That was a very smart fella's recommendation a long time ago; I haven't forgotten bud.

Great Job.

It is apparent from all your hard work that the KTM thumper is deserving of it's own forum.

I vote yes to KTM Thumper Forum

Thanks Bill,

Well, I think indexing helps eliminate the need for subforums. One of the drawbacks to subforums is less cross-platform idea sharing. KTM Thumpers would hang out in theirs; Huskys in theirs; Beemers in theirs... reducing the chances of sharing outside of their brands. At KTM Talk they have even screwed up their subforums; one of which tosses the dual-sported RFS in with the LC4s when the RFS bikes have their own subforum... I am fine with one Thumper forum.
