GPS V and MapSource Question

Okay, purchased a lightly used GPS V without any software from the Flea Market. When I got it I thought I could just use either my City Select or Metro Guide software but sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. I had loaded those disk with other GPS units that I've had in the past and thought I could use them with this unit however; that apparently is not the case.

So what am I to do? Is there anyway around purchasing new software?

Thanks in advance...

Metroguide should work as it does not require a software key. City Select does require an Unlock Code from Garmin. They will give you one free Unlock Code provided the software is currently registered with a second GPS that you own. I think the is a way to get the code online if you hunt around on their web site. You will need the serial number for the new GPS and your Customer ID to access your current account record. Or, you can just call and wait in the phone que.

30 to 35 minutes!

Are there detailed maps to upload with Metro Guide as there are with City Select?

Yes, the question is....which version of Metroguide USA do you own. The newer ones do not support "Autoroute". The old one (v3.0) does; the newer ones don't.

I did it online but Idon't remember how I found it. I did need the GPS serial number. Now that I'm typing I may have found it through the software. Hold on let me check............Ok I'm back. Not sure but maybe I did a get unit id in the utilities menu in City Select.

It will work. Licensing for the standard versions of City Select and City Nav include the rights to an additional unlock code for a second GPS. You can do this online or via tech support. I also found out that the system works, I tried to get a third unlock code for another GPS and the system wouldn't let me do it.

I don't know if this applies to NT, never had a need to try to unlock a second unit, but I've been running with two unlock codes for City Nav for a long while.

Thanks for the replies... Upon review of my account with Garmin it turns out that I have already in fact registered 2 units with Garmin. I have a unit that I sold a few months ago and a defective unit that I returned still registered. When I explained this to tech support they were understanding and since I had already purchased City Select and had used it on a uit returned to them they provided another unlock code.

Cool, they weren't as understanding with me. I had sold the other unit to a friend and he was still using it, so there wasn't much I could do.
