2002 V Strom 1000 noise

There is a noise when under load that sound like chain slap on a hard guide. It does not do it when going down hill while not under much load. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks

Assuming that your chain is properly adjusted - check for wear on the outer and inner edges of your rear sprocket teeth. The DL1000 only has one bearing in the cush drive and its center line is offset from the rear sprocket's center line, which causes the sprocket to cock sideways under load, particularly at lower speeds. When the sprocket cocks sideways the tips of the sprocket teeth foul the chain's side plates, which might be what you're sensing.

Some people have used re-machined left-side spacers to compress the cush drive tighter against the cush rubbers in order to reduce the rear sprocket's tendency to twist sideways. I chose instead to fit a second bearing in order to stabilize the rear sprocket.

This is only a problem with the DL1000 and there's a huge (but mind-numbing) thread over on the Vstrom.info site on rear sprocket carrier play.

I have a Baglux tank cover on my Vee, and can attach (very securely) their tank bag to it in seconds. The bag is expandable and doesn't interfere with the handlebars or blocks the view of the instruments ebven when fully expanded. And the cover protects the paintwork too.

hi all, i got my '12 vee last june. i just got back from a big bend trip, 1600 miles. the bike did great. all pavement except for some funky parking lots, lol. we had a major heavy wind day, too.

i also have an '11 white wee i got last fall. i got a really good tradein deal for my 1100 honda sabre so i couldn't pass it up. she's my daytripper.

i too had the low rpm surging/stumble, but installed a 'used' pcv that did the trick but the new ecm is on order as well as plugs. so, we'll see how that goes....

I put mine on 4k miles ago, and they still look new. And I've been rolling constantly on them on a road trip fir the last 2.5k. Did good on a Daytona beach sand dune for what kind of tires they are.

Needless to say, I won't be changing tire brands for a while.

Something yellow this way comes

New Wee owner in Ohio. I had a DR650 for a few years and put 30000 miles on it and also have a Wr250r so I was looking for a better road bike. I test rode a KTM990 and loved it but the next day found a great deal on a 2009 strom with 7500 miles. Most of the farkles were already on it. I added new handle bars, real barkbusters, and new tires. I have had it 2 weeks and have put about 300 miles on it. Leaving monday to ride to Va. Beach (600 miles) and planing to be home friday. I do have a Givi top case and givi side boxes. More pictures to come next week.

I just bought a 2009 Wee w/ABS yesterday, thanks to your help and guidance. It 11,000 mi. and is in like new condition. It also has grip heaters and extender fenders.I just ordered an SW-Motech engine guard,Coocase S50,3/4 lowering bone,I hope the lowering doesn't change the handling,MRA 20" vario shield w/Madstad bracket.I will be getting hardbags(Givi) when I decide which ones to get.
