This is jellyroll's quote, I had the one liner below it on the last page. How come when I use the "quote" button there is not the cool box around it like you guys?

Thought I'd chime in on the low pressure issue to see if I'm the only one out there who doesn't think that it works. I downhill mountainbiked for a lot of years with guys who insisted on running low pressure and when I tried it all I ended up with were dented rims. I've never found that I got any better traction on a bike, motorbike or Jeep except for riding on a beach and thats just a surface area / flotation issue. Am I alone here? I just don't see how running a knobby tire, especially one with soft bendy knobs, gives you any better control. It might feel like it 'cause it slows you down and dampens your steering... I look forward to your vociferous disagreement.
The test you are quoting needs to be surrounded by the tags shown below. It looks like you deleted the top portion of the quoted post along with the
leading tag. This is how it looks in the Reply field:

Burnt Fuse

I guess I should finally properly introduce myself, so here goes. Hi I'm Stacy proud owner of an 08 XRL. Bought it new last summer and did a lot of cosmetic work on it right away. Then I deployed, so I'm waiting to get home and get the priorities straight and do Dave's mods and a few other things. I check in here almost everyday and have learnt a lot in the past year. Thanks for an awesome resource.

So danggit I hadn't checked in for a few days and something finally came up I knew the answer to and I missed it! I burnt my headlight fuse very early on when changing out my headlight. I had some wires touching or off or something and when I turned it on, nothing. All the other lights worked, except the headlight and starter. I checked the fuses right away and missed the burnt one too. After a couple days of head scratching I finally checked them again and found where it was blown.

Hopefully since I'm introduced now I'll say hi a little more often! By the way, when I'm not inhabiting a miserable middle eastern country, I live in East Tennessee, not far from Knoxville near the Cherokee National Forest. Lot's of good dual sport riding. Thanks again.

Here's the bike all cleaned up back when it had the stock tires on it.

Nice XRL Stacy.

Thanks for the input on the starter/headlight blown fuse issue. I did some further investigating and noticed that the connectors on my front brake light switch are loose and if moved slightly affect whether or not the brake light comes on when the front brake is applied. I don't know if that has anything to do with my blown fuse, but it's the only wiring problem I've found on the bike.

Stay safe.

Love the black look! What kind of paint did you use for the side covers? What's your rear fender/tail light set up?

For some reason, right after I bought my XRL several months ago, I was checking my mileage at each fillup. I seemed to be putting in around 2-2.5 gallons after going 70-80 miles. I wasnt impressed with the fuel mileage, but that's not why I bought this bike.

Skip ahead a few months. I don't know what changed...or if I was simply doing some terrible math. But I have check my last several tanks....been running it up to 120+ miles, then filling up with about 3 gallons, sometimes less. I've been averaging between 40 and 43mpg. I haven't lost any weight. Nothing about the bike changed other than running a 14t sprocket for about 2 weeks. have since gone back to a 15t with a 48t on the rear. 14-48 was just too low. I did install a Uni air filter a couple months back...and trashed hte paper unit that was left by previous owner. I've been using Shell Rotella T full synthetic since the day I bought it. I'm sure not babying the throttle.

For the life of me I cant decide if my math was that bad for the first few months, or if something has changed. But I'm getting almost 10mpg more than I thought I was several months ago. Would the air filter have made THAT much difference?

I get a big difference in MPG depending on the time of the year , usually early in feb , march , april , I get worse , I think the fuel blends are different depending on the time of year.

Winter vs. Summer fuel blend.

40-45 is pretty normal for a Dave's mod "normal" XRL. Never noticed a huge MPG change from stock, either.
