Trip, take your left side panel off and go for a ride to see if it gets better or worse. Better and you are rich, worse and you are lean.

Thanks, tried this and it seems that taking off the side panel actually helps, but when i get past 5k rpm or so it does the same thing. Hmm... I've also got the mixture screw out to about 2 1/4 turns. I'll try riding it this weekend as is until I can get the carb off again.

Edit: Also, decel pop seems to have increased with the panel off as well.

go back to 155 or 158. too rich for that alt. 55/158 is baseline for dave's mods on stock bike at 0'. go up and go smaller on the jet. add exhaust and go larger on the jet. that should put you right around.... 155 or 158.

Mix screw is only for idle, won't affect WOT. The only other thing just now I cant think of, is the shim was too big for the needle.

I'll give that a try. Hopefully I can do it without pulling the carb. I've got a 155, 158, and also a 162 jet available to use.

If you have a trick let us know. I was never able to figure out how not to.

Well when I was pulling out originally to do the mods, I was able to turn it over a bit. I'll try again and maybe I can turn it over enough to get the screwdriver in there.

Could be. I think it's 0.32 in thickness as I couldn't find anything smaller and HD didn't have brass ones in the size I needed. It's also a fiber washer which someone said could potentially swell. I'll have to check True Value to see if I can find something that could work better.

Question

I've started all the financing applications for a new 2012 XRL, but Im having second thoughts on a new model as it seems like these are die-hard bikes and that I can save some money getting a second hand model that might just be as good as a new model.
Can anyone please tell me what are the advantages of getting a new 2012 model as apposed to a second-hand earlier model? What has Honda improved on, or what differences are there?
