I am going to do a post write up. The first 2 weeks is CDR south to north, then swing east to visit FIL who has a bad case of Lung Cancer, tehn to Austin to visit my brother and my retirement property then back to CO. I love smoke and fire. (I feel sorry for those guys that live in CO). Then I will slowly work my way west.

I had promised a crazy inmate in Lodi that I would visit, I need to see how my schedule works. I guess I will owe him some more smokes! Damn

I am going to write nightly in a journal along with plenty of pictures. I will see how this works.

When I get back I need to talk to the asylum about a miss the bike has developed. Maybe have to swing down to see Young Mike (Mike B. don't take offense) to let him ride and see if he hears the exhaust leak I think I have and then try to trouble shoot to figure out where it is? Then I'll tackle the missing issue. OBTW ~2000 - ~3000 rpm a slight miss but noticeable.

A friend of mine has a '93 XR650L with an EAR Supertrapp muffler, but it's stock otherwise with 14,000 miles. I rode it and it seemed to lack the punch I expected. It would lift the front wheel a little in 1st gear, but was nothing like an '86 XL600 I used to have - a wheelie machine. I could wheelie that bike through all 5 gears. I loved that bike, except for an ignition gremlin that caused me so much frustration that I sold it.

I recently had an uncorked XR650R that had impressive power, but the chassis did not seem well suited for wheelies; feet-up-slides, yes, but not wheelies.

Is the XR650L less inclined to wheelie than the older XL600? Or does my friend's bike need work?

Thanks,
Jim
The XL600s were lighter, more powerful, shorter in two dimensions, and their twin carbs afford better response than the CV-equipped XR650L.

Without knowing what has been done to that 19 year old, it's hard to say whether something is wrong with it.

The XL cam was different fitment-wise, but the profile is actually the same.

Has anyone bought from http://www.halfdaft.co.za/ before. I really like the design of the rack they have.

I haven't gotten one of those, but I can personally vouch for these...

Loaded up it looks like this...

It was made by Jungle Plant and can be found on his site www.manracks.com

The rack is VERY sturdy, well built and bolts right up. I am very happy with mine.

Yes, the Twisted Throttle bracket prevents it from sliding up any further.

I made this video for him last-night. I thought it would cheer him up... he is the rider in this video.

Only one thing worse than crashing... having someone recording you crashing! All the cool points that you might ever earn are forever GONE!

It ended up not being that bad.

both front forks bent ($105 shipped on ebay with the triples and they are even gold)
front wheel bent but fixable
bent front axle (#20 ebay)
bent headlight bracket (fixed by hand)
cracked headlight bezel ($5 worth of plastic epoxy)

all and all... everything will be here by Friday and only $150 in parts.

getting it on video then making him dance with a bag on his head afterwards..... priceless!
