Pictures
Well, decided to finally post some pictures.....
This was the day I bought the bike, after the ride home. ![]() This is a few weeks later on my first ride to town to get it registered after I got it setup a little better to my liking. ![]() I didn't think there would be that much snow when I decided to make the 86 mile back road.... ![]() ![]() Well, about a mile into the snow and ice packed road, I went down for the first of four times. ![]() The new tires were definetly not up for the task of taking on snow. (Shinko 244's) As I learned long ago, it's not if you are going to go down, it's when.... So after this adventure, I didn't have to worry about going down on my "new" bike for the first time. I also figured out that the setup my dad came up with for saddlebags didn't workout so well.

Unfortunately, the Shinko 244 tires are worthless in mud and snow. ![]() Thanks for posting the nice photos. Spud

My plans this weekend, if the weather stays nice and I get the time (silly kid birthday parties), is to build some subframe supports, install the factory link, and the normal maitenance.

I have some xr650L parts for trade:
Low mile 1800mi: Fork Legs Lowers + internals "look good and internals should be good but upper sliders tubes are bent but there" Front Hub Front brake rotor speedo gear Slider bellows Chalky front OE tire which explains the fork issues Possibly Not sure yet but possibly the instrument cluster. I could use a good muffler and who knows what else. Got anything I cant live without? nic579 screwed with this post 02-16-2013 at 09:10 AM |

I'm not sure there is a "good" tire for snow unless it has got studs, it's just degrees of how bad it is. That said, snow is just hard to ride in, but there are some skills and techniques I'm learning. The last snow ride I did was 23 miles from 2"-18" and I only wrecked five times. That's only once every 4.6 miles

In muddy conditions the tread will fill up in an instant, and drop you without any warning, whatsoever. ![]() I suggest you try either a Pirelli MT21, or a CST Surge I, front tire. These tire work well enough on pavement, and won't fail you while riding off road. Spud

XCMH front is as good offroad as the scorpion pro, but lasts better and isn't low-profile. Knobs don't fold over, either.

The FCR that I have is off of a CRF450. The XRL cables fit it just fine. I actually ended up using a CRF450 throttle and cables after a bit. I like them better...

Also if you have the clutch perch from the crf you can use the hot start cable for the choke. Just switch the choke and the hot start button around. The plungers are the same bore size.

You will want to use the XRL plunger. I tried to use the FCR hotstart plunger and it doesnt seal right. Bike runs like crap. The CRF250 hotstart cable connected to an XRL plunger works perfect. Connects right up to the XRL perch.
