Any owners of early 80s XL around?? I'm new to all this maintenance stuff, its my first bike, and have some questions regarding my 1980 250. Mostly simple stuff to you guys but a pretty big hurdle for me. Shoot mr a zPm if you have experience or own a bike similar to mine I have some questions to ask! Also, what I've realized is a lot of the foxes I should be able yo make are not so easy because the previous owner ghetto rigged a lot of things do my manual is harder to understand because of this. Cheers and thanks in advance

I also posted this under sumo thread, but i figured i would post it here first... After all nobody knows the XRL better than you guys!

Did you hear that on the internet?
Yes, by all means. Get an O or X ring chain for the street.
All you will need to do is keep it from getting surface rust.
I use silicone lube for this task.

yea that's a igloo cooler mounted to the back rack im a bit of a redneck.

anyways i recently noticed that my shock under my seat when i get on the bike it goes down but when i get off the bike it doesn't come up like i think it should(im not as mechanically incline as most here but im learning) it just seems to slowly come up a little and i have to pull it up to get it to come all the way back up.But i don't think its bottoming out because when im going over bumps and stuff it doesn't feel like its bottoming out or anything but im not a very heavy person at all. My question is it the shock shot or does it maybe need adjusted any tips on what i should do will be a big help and thanks in advance.
My friends L did this severely. It would literally barely rebound. Shock needed replaced as body was ovaled.

I recently broke my throttle cable and had what u thought was the right replacement for my XL250, but turns out it doesn't match. I ordered it from amazon and the details said it was a match. Now I'm still in the hunt for one and all the pictures I see are similar to the one I ordered. I don't get it. My manual shows I should have the push/pull but when I took my gas tank off to look at the one I had it had only one cable... So confused.... Any help is appreciated

There are two different carb cables on the XRL. The pull cable has an adjustment on the carb end where the push cable does not.

Pictured on top is the pull cable

BTW: Did you see that post from the Swiss E-Bay for the 30-liter tank? Looks like yours...

Thanks for posting. I can't believe those structures are still standing. Thought the Allies would've blown them up after the war.

About your bike, what headlight mask do you have on it?
