thanks

I just mounted up my second set of MT21`s on my bike...ThumpNRED asked about them in a pm.....

I told him i found no difference off road in my use......but it lasted a pile more miles than the D606 ever did......not sure if i was easier on the throttle or it just plain lasts longer......

Seems the MT21 is popular this year......always was for the front,,

That is a dampener...not removeable,it`s molded into the OE front sprocket,,it`s supposed to cut down on noise.whether it does lor not is debateable

Do any of you guys have an extra stock tail light assembly? I am looking for one for a friend's XR600R. If you do, please send me a pm. Thanks!

XR650L Clatter

My wife's XRL makes a ratcheting/clacking sound. I've posted this video here.

Seems to be right hand side.

Cam chain?
Chain tensioner?
Something more sinister?
Valve seat
Piston Skirt

Just hoping for some direction before I start trying to find it.

1994 with 10,000 miles.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Sounds like valve train noise, have you checked your valve clearances??????

10K miles..the cam chain/tensioner houldn`t be an issue...

I guess I'll take another look, I adjusted them last year in the fall not many miles since then don't remember this noise. I'll take a look maybe a jam nut working it's way loose... EEK!

I've worn out two T-63's up front and got close to 8,000 miles out of each one, turning them around at 4,000. The knobs never looked funny until about 3,500 miles(each direction)

I've gotten no more than 3,000 miles from a front D-606 and that was shot! The cheap bastard in me prefers the T-63's.
Cheaper and lasts more than twice as long.
I got a 100/80-21 MEFO from a guy on CL a few months back. I'm mounting it up next along with a Metzeler Enduro III 140/??-18. I know I can get close to 8,000 miles from the Metzeler. I've heard good things mileage wise from the MEFO's.

That sounds almost exactly like what mine is doing. I haven't figured out what it is but mine will make that noise intermittently. When its doing it, it sounds like a real loose valve.
Sometimes its there on start up, sometimes not. Sometimes it will be there when I arrive at my destination, sometimes not. Sometimes it will be there on start up after the engine is warm, sometimes not...
I've checked the valves a few times since it started. They've never been out of adjustment the entire time I've owned it.
Bike still runs great, just has that noise.

Just was at a friends house and he has a dr650 with a DG exhaust. He paid 100 off eBay brand new when the first came out a few years back. It is loud but his baffle did last a long time. IMA take his advice and just spend 300 on a better one instead. So its pretty much a Vance or FMF. I like the look of the Vance. And it does have a deep note to it.

There are others too. Yosh makes one. It looks really nice. XRs only seems to be a nice unit as well.

I get about 1500 miles (one season) out of a tire and it is SHOT. My mileage is spread between the easy daily commute and shredding up rocky trails so I guess 1500 isn't too bad. The D952 that I just pulled off could have gone many more miles on the street, but it is shot as far as a dirt tire. I have run D606s before and they are a decent tire both on and off road (loud as hell on the road... louder than the D952). I absolutely love the MT21 up front (second season on it). The last time I had a matched set was when I tried the D606 front and rear.... hopefully this will be a better package deal

From earlier this evening... Bath time?

I'm gonna throw my dart at a incorrectly adjusted right side exhaust valve. Did you do the adjustments on the compression stroke and heard the decom assy go CLICK??? If not revisit the adjustments.

I did check for the loud click just prior to TDC. I'll give it another go. I've checked and rechecked all four valves. Still clacking like crazy. I even tried setting the right side to what I considered a bit tight. Somewhere just below .005". I've done valves for years on my oilheads, RFS motors, my LC8 and others. I realize the LC8 is not a tappet style but still the clearance checking part is the same. I clearly heard a click a few degrees before the T mark. All the valves are moveable so I think I've got it on the compression stroke.
