Wife got mad at me for something she couldn't find so I bailed and went for a ride.
It cheered me up!

Wise choice! Looks like a good ride... nice view. Surely better than fussing with the wife.

Caliper pin

Mine was notched like Clint's, only more pronounced.

I would like to rebuild the caliper anyways, just due to age. Aftermarket rebuild kit, or just go OEM?

You can see the notch about 2/3 of the way down the pin from my finger.

What do you think? Clean it and let it ride or place an order for a new one?

Either should be fine.......i would not rebuild a caliper on a dirtbike myself unless i could get the stripped down caliper soda blasted to remove all corrosion under inside the piston bore and where the seal sits...corrosion expands and makes the piston stick,,,soda blasting removes all corrosion and no metal,,making it like new again...

Neither, don't bother with rebuild, buy another one on EBay. Price out the rebuild parts and check out EBay.

so i replaced my cdi that i figured was the culprit, guess again!
so here is what it does, run from home to gas station and no start,
it is not getting spark either, it doesn't even try to start.
then out of the blue it will start.
it is spuradic when it does this so it is hard to find.
so where do i start throwing $ or tearing apart.
i still have all my safetys but they all seem to work?
put the kick stand down and it will die.

never dies while riding ever.

so what else kills the spark?
i am thinking the kill switch?

at least i now have a good spare cdi!
thanks brian

So I have this rattle.

When I accelerate really hard, throttle fully open, there is a noticeable rattle that is louder the higher the RPM. Is it just the chain, or something else? Could it be that the valves need adjusted?

Also, what skid plate would everyone recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Stop/run button. Just a guess. Mine has and is currently doing pretty much same. But mine is running today!
Check coil too.

It's the stop/start button. Pull the switch assy off of the bars and hose the switch with electrical contact cleaner and cycle the switch back 'n forth. Does your bike live outside?

Do you have OEM drive chain guides?
Some of the after market chain guides use a hard plastic guides that last forever but are noisy.

made mine:

I have yet to check the valves, definitely has oil. I am running the cheap 86 ethanol junk...... I have run higher octane, but that didn't seem to change the rattle. The rattle has continued with a new chain and sprocket setup, but does happen any other time except as described originally....

I am running an XRs only chain guide, but it rattled when I didn't have a chain guide on at all..... Oh yeah, I forgot about your setup for a skid plate. Maybe I can find some time to fab one up.

If not the kill switch it might be the pulse generator. This post tells how to check it.
