The gear goes away from the case. Look down the chain tunnel to make sure the chain lines up with the chain guide.

Tires that have been the most predictible and offer the most control, to me, from all I've tried thus far, are the Pirelli Scorpion Pro - rear and front. However, I wore that rear out very quickly, so the next rear I'm trying is the Pirelli XCMH. It will be interesting to compare the handling and wear rate to the others.

I did run the XCMH set and life was poor. However handling was good except for high speed road front end wobble.

Try one of these. Dun 908RR. I pulled it off at 7171 miles:

The service manual is unclear on this.
See pages 4-2, 7-7, and 10-2.

I don't run gears.

I did not like the scorp pro front- a low-profile dirtbike tire? Super-foldy-knobs?

The XCMH front is better, I think. My current set of tires are the XCMHs. Excellent traction, as always lifespan is the issue.

i found this in my manual...seems pretty clear to me.but i looked in another year and the pic sucked and kinda looked like what Steve said,so i`d like some clarification on this..........anyone have a shop manual that shows different.i`m sure it came off this way too..

This is on page 10-2 and is a separate detail pic of the gear placement,it`s in the upper left corner of that page,i can`t imagine it being wrong or changed from year to year..

Did not make it clear that the gear is away from the case?

And to look down the chain tunnel to confirm that the chain is in alignment with the tensioner guide.

No Steve, you said i was wrong...that the picture posted showed it on wrong,,i`m not trying to piss you off at all.just seeking clarification since you said that i was wrong.........

I have no problem being wrong......if the gear is on backwards then i`d like to know,,i put them on according to my manual,,some manuals like the one i downloaded have shitty pictures..but the picture he posted is exactly like my manual shows...

The first picture i posted was from the 2004 service manual...

This one is from the 1993 service manual.........

Seems they changed the picture somewhere between 1993 and the 2004 manual...........gear part number stayed the same............

The newer manual shows it in a side view for clarification and makes this above picture to be wrong............someone along the way screwed up in the manual..one way or the other, both these photos can`t be right...
