Look down the chain guide. That has to go on before the rest of the stack on the crankshaft that side anyway. With a 10mm socket. And then the cam chain sprocket, drive gear, PG and oil pump drive sprocket all held on with a 24mm nut. And make sure the washer says this side out.

I think.

B,

I'm not trying to piss you off. Even if I wanted to...

The gear has a spacer on one side. That spacer or collar goes towards the engine case and the gear teeth are away from the case.

So is this pic in the manual wrong..........i`m just looking for clarification Steve.........2 manuals...one shows this,,the older manual pic is kinda vague..........i`ve never looked down the chain to check,,didn`t figure i needed to..this clearly shows the collar side out??????????

brian just a question...you dont think youd see the big angle difference when the sprocket is on wrong?

like aligning a chain on a pedal bike...youll really see if its wrong...

if installed incorrectlly the chain will rub on the sliders...

manuals huh makes you want to double and triple check EVERYTHING

I`ve never seen any irregular wear on the 2 sets of rails.........i`ve never looked down the hole either........but my manual shows a good side view and also the way to time that gear........

hmm I was just mentioning it since I always check down the hole to make sure the chain hasnt fallen off and into the collar...to check timimg or after putting the head back on

Im so damn paranoid after reading all the cases of jumped timing caused by this that I have a long ass screw driver and a big light to see down there...

last time for some reason took me forever to get the chain back on..almost took the clutch cover off! jajaja

anywhoo

peace

What's the consensus on replacement of the regulator/rectifier? I've done all the checks via the Haynes manual and it seems my unit has failed 2002, 14k miles).

I'm looking on cheap cycle parts but it's not a Honda unit. Should I stick with OEM?

The XCMH front is better, I think. My current set of tires are the XCMHs. Excellent traction, as always lifespan is the issue.
I was looking at the XCMH as the next front tire to try ,
Have you tried a Surge I front tire? I would like to hear how you think that compares with the XCMH and the Scorpion Pro, traction wise.

(RZRob) the damper looks good, I really like mine.

I tried it with the lip towards the crank and gear facing the cover. I found the chain rubs the drive gear that way, so did this guy http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=676313

This vid shows it with the lip facing away from the crank too, as well as any other pictures and vids that I was able to locate

hmmmmmmmm..never heard of anyone with a bad reg yet,,this`ll be a first...i`d go OE...i`d never put anything but on these bikes as the charging is usually bulletproof...
