Mini Baja Ride -- Let,s do it !

I have been talking it up for a while with the Mojave Rd. gang. Like to do a three or four day weekend ride--800+ miles approx.

Start in Tecate and hit Mikes Sky Ranch-San Quintin-Catavina-Gonzaga Bay -San Felipe and more but not in this particular order. This ride would be mostly dirt oriented ( following old Baja race courses ) but a group may take pavement and meet us in the evenings.

Would like feed back on -Three or Four Days
Real Dirt Bikes or ADV Bikes
Is March 24 25 26 27 OK -or a later date?

Would like to make some firm plans in a few weeks so we can check on rooms-A lot of people go to Baja in Spring.

Any Takers?

Later the Kug

I am always in for this kind of trip. I have been to Baja a bunch on the 640 and would love to take the 450 and "Go Lite".

My only hang up . I am a freelancer and have trouble confirming a schedule. I will stay in touch and see how this plays out.

Ken-
I would love to do this, but like the others am on a tight schedule. I will let you know how I'm doing when we get closer to the date.
Thanks for getting something going.

Yeha... Maybe...

I would love to join in on a trip like this, but like others, I can't commit this early. I only have an 1150GGSAdv, and I am not really good enough for the soft stuff yet...

Great thread, keep it goin'!

Ken,
Great Idea! March 24-27 works on my calendar. I like the idea of adv bikes for the long miles. 800 miles in 3-4 days is a good amount of riding. If you want a route more dirt oriented for smaller bikes, that's ok too. You plan it, I'll be there.

Damn. Would like to do this, but I don't think that work will allow it.

MotoMike and I have been talking about and planning a trip like this too. I'm in the same boat as G.Kennedy... being freelance, it's impossible to confirm until significantly closer to the dates.

I just ordered my Zega hard cases and pannier rack system, so I'll be ready. I'm crossing my fingers for a little free time.

Baja ride March. 2006

Ken,

Like most everyone here, that schedule works for me, unless I find out later that it won't work for me. I suggest just locking down those dates and figuring out the cast of characters later.

I'm going to Baja the last weekend of Feb. for a 3-day ride, but I wouldn't mind going again. More dirt the better for me, since I don't have a bigger bike yet.

Dez sled or ADV bike?

I may be able to pull it off too, schedule permitting. The question is do I take the KTM 950 or my CR 500 desert sled??????????

I would love to do a short baja trip, have a v-strom and klr, would rather take the strom if the roads are suitable. I'm self employed so I just have to ask myself, self, do you want to go, Yes.

I am still planing to do it. March 24-27. Leave from Tecate on March 24 8:30 AM.
Tecate to San Quintin Approx 230 miles First Day
San Quintin to Gonzaga Bay Approx 170 miles
Gonzaga Bay to Mikes Sky Ranch Approx 180 miles
Mikes back to Tecate Approx 160 miles

I got rooms lined up in San Quintin. But I am having a problem trying to get in touch with Alfonzina,s in Gonzaga Bay. Can any one help me with that one? I did not try Mikes yet do to the Gonzaga problem.

Still don,t know if I should take my 450 or my 950?? You can have a great Baja ride with eather bike.

I'm still hoping I can make it schedule-wise. The point at San Quintin is absolutely beautiful. It'll be hard riding out there to see what will likely be great surf with no one on it, and no boards with us due to riding bikes. The last time I went I got there in my old '77 Bronco which I no longer have

I spent three (mostly drunken) days there with two good buddies surfing. We ate well, drank well and got in touch with our "inner caveman." That's another story involving flashlights, big rocks and a rat killing binge.

My Zegas just arrived today from TT. I hope toget 'em bolted on sometime tomorrow.
