Hey Bill. I think I responded to you on the Yahoo DR group about the S-06. So here's what happened: I had a '92 BMW GSPD, (got another since), with the little factory windshield. Bought it for a trip to western Canada. Rode the bike for a couple of weeks around town and back roads, then shipped it to Calgary. My buddy was on an Oilhead BMW and the speeds were much higher than I was used to and the buffeting was beating the crap out of me. I noticed that when I stood up, the buffeting went away. After a couple of days we ended up staying at my buddies' borther-in-law's place in B.C. and at night after a couple of beers I started thinking out loud about the windshield problem. My buddy suggested cutting it, but I didn't want to do that. We took a look at it and I came up with the idea of drilling new holes to lay it back, effectively making it lower. Got the brother-in-law's drill out and soon it was raked back nicely, (actually looked pretty good, too, considering...). Next day we left and as soon as we got up to speed, it was way better, no longer rattling my brain. So the first time I mounted the S-06, I thought about my past experience and mounted it raked back. Works great, though it doesn't provide the kind of wind break a bigger windshield would. You still get lots of wind, but it's smooth, not turbulent. The DR's never going to be great at high speed higway riding, but, at least for me, that's not the point of it. You've already got the S-06 - throw it back on and experiment with the angle. You should be able to come up with something that works for you. I've taken mine off from time to time for a change and I always put it right back on - I like it much better with it on. |

but I was thinking with the white IMS tank, it might look better with white side covers, but leaving the black fenders. What do you think? Here's a before shot:

I want one of those black plastic tailpieces where can I get one? any clues?
Gotta agree with scooter on the black colour thing. Also, did the fork brace make any noticeable improvement to the bike ? (Ive tried them b4 with big jap and bm 70's roadies and didnt notice any appreciable difference) A nice bit of bling tho' davorallyfan screwed with this post 02-04-2006 at 09:41 PM Reason: emmission of stench |

i did a summers racing on my old dr350 and it stiffened the front end a lot. just wiggle your handlebars while cruising down the road, the front will flex on the 650. these braces are quite good at tieing it together better.

How tough would it be to get one of our Canadian members to buy some black plastic and ship it down this way?
I'd love to get rid of the white and blue.

I've got a 96 DR 650 w/ hi-comp piston, a cam, an alum skid plate, braided brake lines, Renthal bars, jet kit, airbox mods, K&N filter, SuperTrapp IDS2,
DR250 taillite, front knobby. 9500 mi. I just picked it up mid December for $1700. Now I need a rear knobby and springs front and rear. Maybe a fork brace too. I have a pic, but don't have a clue how to attach. I'll try to figure it out. Do you have to have a smugmug acct?

Yeah, you just might be right Bill, but since the white IMS tank cost me a bundle by the time I got here, (got it before the US dollar went down), I think I'm kind of committed to keeping it. So if anyone has a set of cheap white sidecovers they want to unload, let me know. I'd offer to trade my black ones, but they're a little beat up ,especially the right one, which has been partially melted by the soft bags I strapped on for a trip. |
