Oh, that would've been fantastic to watch!

Seriously though, as a former thumper-GS owner, I jest about the sewing machine because I love the machine.

In short, don't be put off by F800GS reliability reports on the net, or any reliability reports on the net for that matter - a few posts get cross-referenced and before you know it, your electric toaster will kill us all on 31/12/99...
The plural of "anecdote" is not "data."

Wait! Wait! I love the 650, not the sewing machine! Really!

It's true! I cut down my snorkel a while back for a bit more airflow, and the most pronounced effect I got is a kind of 'barking' noise it now makes on throttle.

I haven't cut mine and it's still louder than the exhaust, at least when riding standing up. But, like I said, the effect was cured with the new can

F650 GS W/Full Trax Luggage Set

I have recieved my backordered Trax

In my previous update I had just added the Conti TK80 tires and TRAX luggage Sans the Top box that was backordered. As I said before, I was able to keep the Turbo City Tom top rack which allowed me to buy the Twisted Throttle SW-Motech Universal Adapter Plate and the matching Top box. I mounted the adapter plate using some of the supplied hardware. I added some spacers and back nuts to the threaded tabs, I was afraid of the tabs stripping.

I do have one thing to report. The bag mounts on the BMW frame don't handle much weight. After riding for a few weeks with the side panniers loaded the mounts bent. To fix this I manufactured a brace for the mounts, See attached at bottom. It's a block of billet alluminum I cut on my band saw to fill the C channel of the mount. I drilled a hole for the hand rail screw, the little hole, and two 3/8 holes for bolts I put through the existing cutouts on the brace. I also JB Welded the brace in to the bracket. So far the fix seems to have held. The brackets are bullet proof, the next point to fail are the welds to the frame. If those break I will just wire weld them. I didn't wire weld the fix this time, just too lazy to disconnect the battery and the ECM, ABS modules and sensors.

This picture is a BIT misleading. I'm not really THAT huge on the bike, but I look hunched over because I've got a couple of liters of water in a hydration pack n my jacket. This was last Sunday's run to Denny's Beer Barrel pub, a 470 mile round trip we took for a hamburger.

keep me in mind when you have the final design!

I don't like the design and the internal light support needs to be redesigned to allow for a variety of lighting applications. Also, some people might want to run the stock instrument package, whcih won't fit inside this set up.
