I have got to sweet talk the wife into letting me buy that 08 new XT that I wanted to buy near PGH. By the time I have the money to buy it(the way SHE wants me to have the money) I probably wont be able to find a new Uly, or even a decent used one. Love the pics of the Uly's offroad BTW!

Chad, Judging by your impatience. I would guess you are a young person. Buells will become even cheaper on the used market. After you get your married life in order buy a used Uly and enjoy. First things first. I would think a new Buell would be a waste of money right now. JMO

yup

Yeah, I think so. After a while he'll figure it out. Just go buy the bike. If he's ecstatic about it she won't give him any grief 'cause nobody wants to rain on a parade. Then she gets a new couch. You see, you just have to figure an extra 20% to the cost of the bike and life is good.

I saw an ad for a dealer in Ocala FL knocking off $5-7000 on a new Buell. Was at the local dealer looking at bikes today and another fellow said a shop in LA was deep discounting, too. I'm thinking there could be another bike in my garage soon, snow or no snow. Nice bikes.

Hijack question

Is an 09 XB12XP for 8600 a good deal new? I am thinking jump on it, but with the demise of Buell, not quite sure. I would LOVE to have a new Uly before they are all gone. Now I just have to convince the wife!!!!!!!

Very kind of you. We chopped his head off - in hindsight perhaps a bit of severe

The old castle behind this one is a massive ruin but more impressive in its own way.

Good riddance hardly davidson!

Buell has created great bikes not because of hd, but in spite of being owned by hd. The hd dealer network has never understood or supported buell or its owners. I have always hated going to the dealer for parts and having a middle aged idiot, nicknamed stinky or dumbo, in black leather pants as the salesman and/ or parts guy. Hopefully buell will come out of this as an independent brand or be bought out by a forward thinking company, not a company that lives off its wanna be reputation. I rode a hardly in the 70s as others, because they were cheap and there was a lot of them around for parts, not because there was any quality in them. Wow, history does repeat itself.

Harley-Davidson announced today that it is discontinuing its Buell product line and will cease production of Buell motorcycles permanently by Oct. 30. According to Harley-Davidson spokesman Paul James, the discontinuation of the 26-year-old Buell brand, which has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Milwaukee-based manufacturer since 1998, "is part of Harley-Davidson's go-forward business strategy. The new long-term strategy aims to drive company growth through a focus of efforts and resources on the Harley-Davidson brand." James said, "The fact is, a dollar invested into Harley-Davidson, there's more impact than the same dollar invested elsewhere when it comes to reaching new riders and enriching the experience of our core customers."
As part of the company's new myopia on its core brand, Harley-Davidson is also divesting itself of MV Agusta, the Italian sport bike company it purchased last year.
"We're exiting the sport bike market with those niche brands," James said.
MV Agusta is being sold because it was a standalone business unit. Buell "was highly integrated into the entire business and the distribution network of Harley-Davidson," James said, so "selling Buell as an outside entity was not the best choice for the company."
While Harley-Davidson is giving the ax to Buell the brand, it's still in talks with Erik Buell, the man, who may continue with Harley-Davidson in an advisory role as it develops new products.
No buyer has yet been named for MV Agusta. As for Buell, dealers will sell remaining Buell inventory and provide warranty, service and repair work. Harley-Davidson expects to provide replacement and service parts for as many years as required.
Harley's announcement to terminate the Buell brand comes on the same day it announced third-quarter earnings. Worldwide, retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles declined 21.3% in the third quarter of 2009 v. 2008.

I cant get enough of the Uly's covered in mud! If I am able to buy the one I am going to look at tomorrow, it unfortunately wont be covered in mud. Not because the bike isnt capable, but the rider isnt!
