Eek Ural Gear-Up, wins 1st place in ABATE bike show

Howdy All,

You guys aren't going to believe this, so I took photos to prove it. Today I rode the Gear-Up to the annual Spring Swap Meet put on by our local ABATE chapter. We always have a "ride in" bike show this means that all bikes entered must actually be ridden into the show area, this keeps all the super high dollar glitzy none running customs out. Anyway they didn't have a class for side-car rigs so I entered the rig in the "Trike" class, this was my competition.

I might add that this VERY sweet Harley trike was "trailered to the show and was only ridden about 100 yards to the show area.

OK, here is the GU, dirty as usual and in my opinion lookin good. The 1st place trophy is sitting on the front fender.

Needless to say, the guy with the pretty Hog trike was PI$$ed off to the max. The Judges sure surprised me, at most ABATE sponsored bike shows it's very rare that anything other then a Harley wins a trophy at all let alone 1st. place. So chalk another one up for the Gear-Up, this is just to Fu#kin COOL.

Way to go! I'm bettin' the machine gun put you over the top. So, what's the wire around the ammo box and the thing mounted on the top of the sidecar to which it leads? I like the windshield. Nice choice. What model is it? TIA.

Howdy Zekester,

The "wire" your talkin about is the lead from the external GPS antenna, the "thing" is the antenna, it works VERY well. I don't know the brand name of the windshield, I just saw it and picked it up, I had to do a bit of cutting to make it fit around the headlight, it works well keeping the brunt of the wind off and still allows you to see well in the off road environment.

Well done! must be good people at that show.

I remember at a rally once there was an award for best bike. There was this shiny hardly davidson entered. Obviously this guy had looked at all the bold on chrome in the cattle dogs and had polished it before the sunday judging. It was gaudy but sparkled - he wanted to win! He was a serious type and a bit full of himself.

There was this young fella who light heartedly entered his 10year old CB250 which he obviously also loved, and had ridden 1500km to get to the rally, he had a relaxed attitude and had a good time at his first rally (entered all the gymkana events) and laughed at all the jokes made about his bike.

The peoples choice went to the young fella on the 250.

The harley guy was spitting chips!

Awesome!
I have an old bag of an Ural myself, a 1993 model, which I've used in the winter. I'm rebuilding it to a desert camo painted Gear-Up, which in Europe is dubbed Ranger. These sidecar rigs are way cool, you see.

Congrats Mr. Cob!

I think as much as folks like chrome, when they get to see a real bike that's being ridden like it should be they respect that.

Howdy Queenie,

Well it does get ridden and what little chrome it had on it has long been painted over in green.
