For those of you who either have an 1100RT or have installed the radio box from an 1100 on their 1150, what are the dimensions of the top opening?
My stock 1150 opening is 8" x 2.75". Is the 1100 opening bigger? TIA |

Fish
the opening look exactly the same from the tuppaware side but if you have removed ALL of the inside crap I would say there would be not differnce as it mounts the same as on my old 1100

Re: Radio / Glove Box
Awww, shit, ya want me to actually measure? It's an oddball shape...basically about 1/2" from the edge of the tupperware all around. Tons bigger, hence easier to get stuff in/out of.

bro.. it's the seal around the radio houseing after you open the tupaware lid. the actual radio container that holds the radio in has a much improved and larger seal so you can not remove the radio with out taking the tubaware off

![]() You had two R1100RTs, no? Remember that box? It's probably the same. :): I'll try and get it measured up tonight...maybe even get a picture or two for ya.. My computer room/office is in shambles as I've been trying to get it cleaned up over the past few days. As far as the P/Ns go...I can't remember. I know someone posted them to MRN. Also if my crappy dealer (who argued that the part might not fit) can get it right, I'd thing BMW-Cruz could too! You have three options: - Remove the radio gunk, have a small opening (good for the smaller man). - Replace the top 1/2 of the existing box with a larger opening, leaving the hole in the back of the box (good for the SF rider) - Replace the whole box. I replaced the whole box. A new gasket for the lid of the whole mess was needed. Don't know what happens if you do #2, I'd assume a larger opening would require a new gasket as well. |

Hate to break the trend and actually post something useful...
The 1100 box's opening is about 8.5"x5" at the widest... A picture for your enjoyment. |

Same pict, with highlighted opening.
I've got a couple with a ruler in the pict, but they didn't turn out well, didn't seem helpful. stevenknapp screwed with this post 01-12-2002 at 09:38 AM |

ahhhh...now I see the difference. In some shots that someone sent me, it just looked like my box with the lid off. But from the angle you took your shots from, I can see that it is quite a bit different...and I see why the new gasket is needed. Yes, steve...this was useful. thanks! |

One bonus is you can stuff more crap all the way to the top...Eh, hard to describe, but very worth it.

Mentally it's difficult, if you start with the "I want to keep this old gasket" attitude you'll fail. Just admit you're going to destroy the stock one and you'll be fine.
I just cut into the center, then used that to pull the old one off. A bit of scraping to get it all off. The lid has an outline where the new gasket goes, clean the lid, peel, stick. I did this last, then shut the lid, using the compression to hold the gasket in place til the stuff cured. |

Nope. Sorry. I know they were posted at *gulp* bmwrt.com. You could also check with your dealer. Mine was able to find it and they didn't believe the boxes and/or gaskets were different when I first asked.
