Cool, now you can set off airport scanners.

And I'd say more like $35K.

What about the bone on top, can't see in that scan?

I'll dig up a better pic later for posterity, they gave me everything on disk. feckin hurts but painkillers are helping me do the PT. no full caste surprisingly, just a black boot that almost reaches my knee. Time for a nap

devo2002, keep up the good spirits

Recovering from something very similar. I'm now at 12 weeks post-op and have almost 80% of my knee strength back. I had to wear a brace for 6 weeks. The PT is soooo worth it.

Here's a pic of my patella before surgery:

And this is the great $70k bling I got to help me walk and ride again:

Not in my experience. Have yet to meet one who was, including the meter maid who told me to keep a cover on my bike and they would never mess with it, including if it was parked on the sidewalk. Granted, I've only been here since August and things may be different in other neighborhoods, but still.

this never happened to me!

this never happened to me!

i'm a returning rider.

first bike in 33yrs.

i'm loving being back.

and a lot has changed in motorcycling during that time.

the bikes are better. the gear is fabulous.

but this afternoon i got my first real taste of having a bike in nyc.

i just discovered that my nys license plate is gone! stolen! ain't there no more!

my bike lives in my apartment building's garage.

the last time i left it unattended was two days ago when i ran local errands.

i was in and out in moments.

except the longest stay was at the home depot in yonkers.

this afternoon i went to get on the bike to run some errands.

i was strapping my gear bag to the bike and that is when i noticed the license plate was gone.

by the way, the plate was bolted on to the plate holder.

(memo to self: use loctite!)

so, now what do i do on this saturday afternoon?

can i report to dmv online?

do i file a police report?

do i put on a cardboard "plate" so i can ride until i can replace?

any and all info is appreciated.

darn, my first sour bike experience.

it was bound to happen.

ymmv.

be well.

Ugh, I'm so sorry someone stole your plate. What a pain. It's happened to me.

You have to report it to the police; just walk in to the local precinct with your paperwork. They'll give you a form that you take to the DMV. Then the DMV will issue you a new plate & reg sticker. I don't remember whether you have to pay (you probably do).

I've been ok with a carboard "plate stolen ABC123 NY" for a few days, but others haven't been so lucky. Stay close to home if you really need the bike for work / errands. Good luck.

Another rationalization for a Velcro plate holder. (Another suggestion from a NYC meter maid, btw)

I have hex heads on my plate bolts for that reason. Just makes it slightly more of a pain to steal.

Bad Traffic

Newbie here, my name is Jones and I'm from Woodside. I ride a black 2011 NInja 250R.

So this morning, I took the bike for a short ride down the Garden State Pkwy for a bit and turned back when I couldn't handle the cold in a mesh jacket. Any tips on weather, like what temperature should I consider a leather vented jacket vs a mesh jacket?

The Brooklyn Approach to the Battery Tunnel is closed. Traffic on the BQE is a disaster! The Atlantic Avenue exit is sealed off. I was jealous of the bikes traveling in the opposite direction..

Just a bit of info before your ride today.
