Sounds good
Happy New Year everyone thanks for guiding me Yep need to
go for my road test as soon as I get a bike and a few weeks of practice I think your on the money about the non running bike I don't know any shops or good mechanics I had a car for many years but ditched it as parking tickets started piling up now I work close to home. Is it ok to park your bike in a unattended parking lot they lock it up around 12 am to 7 am ? I saw some bums sleeping in there once in a while just wondering ![]() Al |

Welcome to the forums! Good luck with the test, though it's pretty much a cakewalk. Honestly though as it seems you haven't taken it I'd really look into the MSF safety course intro deal. You get your license at the end of the class and it's a really good ... introduction :) Though I can understand not wanting to wait until they start offering those again, presumably in the Spring. I don't know if you're exclusively looking for a small bike. I know a lot of people say to start small, but others say don't bother cause you'll grow out of it quickly. I went with the latter school of thought and have no regrets. It depends on your comfort level riding I guess, at least in part. If you decide you're open to a bigger bike, I have a vintage Suzuki GS850 for sale. I agree with the others about not buying a "it just needs the cargbs cleaned" bike, especially not at that price and not if you don't do your own work. My bike has been nicely looked after since I bought it with the intention of keeping it. Things change though and now it's for sale. Regardless, welcome to the site and good luck finding the right bike! Aaron |

You're looking for overnight parking? If you can find a parking lot in your budget, go for it. Or, you can park on the street. Even though motorcycles have to park the same as cars, they take up far less space so it's easier to find a place to park them. (Just be careful not to park somewhere you are likely to get knocked over! If you leave only 6 inches for the adjacent cars to pull out, you will get what you're asking for. )W/r/t road test: Have you looked into taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation ("MSF") BasicRider course? If you pass that then you don't have to take a road test! Plus, they supply the bike. Otherwise, taking a DMV road test is a pain in the ass for motorcycles. You need a friend with an "M" class endorsement to help you. You also need a car AND a motorcycle. Take the class. It's MUCH easier, and it's fun. And, it will make you a much better/safer rider! http://www.nysmsp.org/

I am a colossal idiot
As the above states, I am a colossal idiot.
In a rush to get a couple of bags off my bike last night, I left my helmet on the ground next to it. And forgot about it. with my heated gloves inside it. And the intercom on it. FUCK. Any ideas, gents?

Put up a few paper ads on streetlights. I doubt someone took it to keep. Or maybe it's already sold on CL

I did the same recently except I put my helmet on a gate by the barbershop next to my house. About an hour later I went to use my phone and realized that the Scala Rider headset was still on and connected. When I went to shut it off I realized that I had left it outside. I ran out of the building and luckily for me it was still there. That really sucks. I hope that a neighbor grabbed it for you and that you will get it back soon.

I wear cheap helmets, something no one would want. I had a helmet for years that had chips and scratches all over it including the shield, which was always up anyway. It was at the point where I didn't even want to wear it anymore, inside was covered in playa dust.
Anyway, for years I would just leave it on the bike, usually hanging off the handlebars. A few weeks back someone took it. Probably just cause it was there, certainly not for themselves or to even sell it. That really pissed me off, happened right in front of my house.

It wasn't an expensive helmet, and I have the GF's for a backup. Gmax GM68s, medium, Silver.
Gloves were Olympia, wired from Gerbing, but I'd bought them in the fleamarket here. I have extras. I can still ride without these, but damn... now I need to buy another helmet and intercom, and I lost the modified speakers I'd worked on too.
