Well, you're talking about culture IMO, not race.

I was on vacation in Ethiopia and didn't realize until afterward that it's one of the most dangerous countries in the world in terms of road fatalities per vehicle. If you think the pedestrians are bad here...

i've been known to bring a 6 pack to my local bicycle shop when picking up my bike if i feel like they went out of their way for me.

Not to mention all the bloody frakking ROCK THROWING! I've read of several FFs in ride reports that got so tired of the nonsense they literally started throwing rocks back.

Incidentally, the drivers on Expeditionportal.com report plenty of broken car windows from the rock throwing. Those wacky Ethiopian kids are equal opportunity assailants.

It's about time they made those bikes have inspections. I'd like to see licensing and registration next.

Hey guys,

I'm still dealing with a small radiator leak - doesn't keep me from riding, but it is a constant irritant. I thought I might find a used radiator on ebay but no luck so far (months of searching in fact).

Does anyone know of a cycle salvage place that might have one? (local or on the web)

NYC commuters?

Pulled over on the Palisades last night splitting lanes before the construction. Thought I'd had it. Parkway police pulled up alongside and yelled out his window, "I'm not going to write you a ticket, but stop. Someone is gonna get pissed and swerve into you," and speeds off!

Yep, that's a big problem, car drivers intentionally swerving into riders. It happened to me on my way up to Maine last Friday. The 95 was a parking lot and I started splitting. It only took a little bit for a young guy to pull into me, telling me that I was a bad driver. His girlfriend couldn't help chiming in too.

What is it with these people? Jealousy? Road rage? Boredom? A combination platter of all those and more?

Thanks RT ... you point out that I need to both be more specific in my posts and update my profile - I'm now on a '03 V-Strom 1K

"You're the one who can't keep his car in lane and I'm the bad driver?"

By the way, state law requires drivers to stay in lane.

1128. Driving on roadways laned for traffic. Whenever any roadway
has been divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic the
following rules in addition to all others consistent herewith shall
apply:
(a) A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within
a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has
first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety.

Not to pick a bone with you, but I wouldn't be quoting this as a defense for car drivers to make way for lane splitters on motorcycles. They would be just as much, if not more, in the right to roll this up and beat us over our heads with it.

If you want to make things agreeable for all types of motorists and not encourage road raging and bickering about who's more "right" we need to drop all the bullshit legal language and treat each other as people all trying to get to where we're going. Give someone a law to stand behind, and they stand on top of it, looking down at every one else. Take their paper shields away, and they have to come up with justifications and reasonable arguments adapted to real world situations.

Cool2

I have had drivers honk at me, but never swerve into me.

I lane-split whenever the traffic flow is slower than 25 mph, and rarely do I travel above 25 mph while lane-splitting, most of the time under 20 mph.

Never had been hassled by LEO while lane-splitting, even passed a few while on Brooklyn Bridge.

I figure that I'm not speeding, I'm not sitting in climate-control, I'm not yapping on my cellphone, I'm not sipping on a Starbuck.. I'm giving full attention to my riding.
