That first part is about 5% of what you would need for just a NYS target permit, which does you no good in NYC anyway.

I've gone through the process, I've had the NYS handgun permit, it's by no means easy to get. A NYC target or carry is even more difficult.

Hell, after I got out of the Marines, I came home and they refused my NYS target permit, simply because I lived out of state for too long... and I was in the service!

Good luck with your NYC carry permit application

I'm sooo sorry about your bike. I'm very familiar with this beautiful KTM. I used to see it parked on 31Ave and 23 Str in Astoria.
I will keep my eyes open.

I didn't know the state handed 'em out. Mine is from the county.

And I wish it were tougher to get, honestly, at least in terms of basic skills. There was pretty much no training requirement. No wonder so many idjits shoot themselves. Aside of the fingerprinting, it was actually easier than getting my motorcycle license.

Correct, I meant county, which means county outside of NYC. But how can you honestly say it was easier than a moto license?

The paperwork alone had to be processed by a licensed gun dealer, I had to have numerous letters from people who could vouch for me, notarized, background checks, police records, records of convictions/tickets, violations, list of all past employers, and schools, etc etc etc..

Cost was around a grand, took about 6 months to process, had to be renewed
with new fingerprints annually, each pistol needs to be registered at the county seat, and added to the actual license...

No, I recall my 20 min motorcycle road test being a bit easier...

Damn, which county was that? Mine cost me around $140 including pictures, fingerprinting and filing, I only had to deal with one clerk, notary is a freebie at the bank, the county does all the background checks, you just supply names and phone numbers of references, and it was granted in a couple of months after sitting through a ridiculous class that did little more than say "this is a semi-automatic and they are very bad because it's hard to tell when a round is chambered". And it has no expiration date.

Compare that to a M license application where you don't need a notary but do need a half a dozen pieces of ID, then the written test, vision test, class time, road test where you have to supply a car a bike and a driver for the car (calling in lots of favors or spending a few hundred to have a driving school supply it), and have to display at least some skills however useless they may be in real life traffic situations, then wait a few weeks for them to hand you your actual license.

Nassau county.

ps - I didn't need any class time for my moto license? But I got my license back in the mid 80s.

If you had a regular drivers license and a motorcycle registered in your name before NY had a separate motorcycle endorsement, they just gave you a motorcycle license.

How easy was that?

Unfortunately, mine were registered in NJ and VT to avoid the ridiculous cycle insurance rates at the time in NY, and I couldn't take advantage of it.
