It's over

I just came from NYC Ducati / Triumph on Spring. The showroom floor was empty, and it looked like the whole staff was let go, with the exception of the GM and the service manager.

Anyhoo, I'll be following up with Triumph regarding my warranty. There goes another moto dealer in NYC!

Heh... No, just the dealer. I didn't even want to take a picture of the empty showroom -- it seemed very inappropriate. Lots of people losing their jobs a week before Christmas.

New to this forum (just moved back to NYC), but as of last week, they were, "changing owners". Not sure if that fell through or if this is part of it.

That's a bummer. Guess I'll have to go out to Freehold for the 800. I don't know why "changing owners" would require the removal of the inventory and the firing of the staff unless the new owners plan to renovate the shop and/or no longer sell Triumph and Ducati.

Triumph NYC wasn't perfect but they sure were convenient when I did need something from them or had to take the bike in.

I'm pretty sure Freehold Triumph closed a while back. There are still plenty of triumph dealers to choose from though... all less than an hour from the city

It's pretty shocking, but at the same time I'm not surprised. I always struggled to understand how they could possibly make a profit working out of that space. It was a lot of square footage in a very high rent area. Add that to the fact that they did not have the best service reputation and it was usually easier to get a deal on a bike elsewhere.

Shit! I didn't know that. Hmm what are the others? Gold Coast is the only other one I know out in Nassau but the one time I went in there I got such a sleazeball vibe that I won't be going back.

Triumph Metuchen, Locomotion powersports, Jack Trebour. All new jersey dealers. I think there is another one up on 9W, but I'm not sure.

edit: the one on 9W is Rockwell Cycle

Hmmm Metuchen I can deal with, I've been to the BMW shop out there a few times -- not too bad to get to from where I live.

NYC area Triumph dealers

Rockwell Cycles is far and away the best dealer around for Triumphs. They will drive you to Metro North too and pick you up if the bike has to stay at the shop. I've accumulated high mileage on two Triumphs and never had to take a bike back to the shop after service. Go into the shop enough times and you will hear many other shops in the Tri-state area calling the owner Nick for advice on how to fix something. All the mechanics have been there for several years.

Gold Coast and Locomotion are good too in a pinch and within walking distance of LIRR and Metro North, but I prefer Rockwells. Its a nice ride up there too, just a mile or so north on 9W from the end of the Palisades Pkwy/Bear Mountain Bridge.

In India, maybe. Or China. In New York City, it's a luxury.
